They actually do ban buyers, but it is rare that they do. I had a guildmate of mine who bought some gold once and got slapped with a week long ban and a warning not to do it again. Well as the Gump family says "Stupid is as stupid does" he bought more gold a month or so later and got slapped with a perma-ban.

So, it does happen it's just rare or we don't hear about it.

so someone bascally broke into your house, you caught him stealing stuff, and he dropped a bag of money trying to escape. then the police get your stuff back. immense!
I think that's a good enough analogy... What an idiot he is.

I just got it back XD..I was half asleep and noticed my phone beeping, I checked it, and it had an Email from my account mentioning a password change, I closed it then went to go check my Email, but this email was nowhere to be found, and a new adress had been added as a secondary to my account, so Im assuming they got into my Email ( I was enough of a retard to have the password for WoW and my email to be the same) and deleted it, I couldnt get into my account, so I filled out a form on their website, answered the recovery question, got the account back, changed my password for my WoW account and Email.

So thats the basic part of it, I had no idea what was really going on but I did all of this for security reasons, I havnt played in months but was thinking of starting up again.
Now heres the interesting part, when I went to go tinker with the launcher, it let me log in, my account ran out of time 4 days ago, it turns out it had a gamestop pre paid card added to it 20 minutes ago, sure enough, I log in and all my characters are standing by mailboxes half naked, about 40% of their gear vendored.

So..I could be wrong, but I think I logged in on him WHILE he was looting me. and as a side effect, ninjad his pre paid card. And when I reclaimed the account, it also filed an item recovery ticket to get all my stuff back, so that's probly gonna be resolved in a few days too.

I know that you guys probly don't care about my personal life or warcraft for that matter, but Im just happy as hell thinking of this hacker stomping around in anger and how he just got owned. :p (Totally just jinxed myself, watch it got powerhacked again tommorow.)
while your right, i don't actually LIKE WoW at all, (more a CoH person)
but still,
congratz are due for stopping the hacker cold, and getting your gear back :3

have a cookie sir :3

Well I got an email today saying my Battle.net account has been suspended because the IP didn't match up to my email.

Too fucking right it didn't, considering I don't have and never will have a Battle.net account or any Blizzard games.

Some goober's hacked my email account so I reported it to Blizzard and they unhelpfully told me to bugger off.

This is truly the kind of Irony that I love. The theif was robbed by their victim. Hell even if you couldn't get all your stuff back you still got several months of gametime for free. You just lost some time, they lost about $30.

Thats the upside of being hacked while you're not playing I guess, they always add time to your account free of charge. XD

I just got an e-mail about my WoW account -- I've never played it in my life. I wonder if someone stole my e-mail...?

I've never played WoW, but this is really epic! Put a smile on my face XD

on a(not so) related note, I've seen the idiocy these spammers can do to flood your inbox. Once they sent me an email from ME, telling myself I was on vacation somewhere in the Caribbean, got robbed by some thugs, & my only hope of getting home was for ME to send money to some bank account I don't even have, often giving a specific amount to donate.

I'd say they're retarded, but then they're probably using some program to send multiple emails to random addresses they've gotten from phishing them from email contacts lists; in which case the programmer's retarded.

Are you sure that it was a pre-paid game time? Absolutely sure?

I would hate to think that these crooks would saddle you with having to clean up a mess if they used a stolen credit card (people who give these jokers their CC to buy gold with, are you fucking stupid or something?)

Helping people who have been keylogged/phished is one of the better things Blizzard does. Of course if they had made the decision 4 years ago to ban buyers then they might have saved themselves a fortune..but that is hindsight.
and miss out on all the gold farmer revenue? hellno blizzard isent THAT stupid XD

My account got hacked today too, weird. But considering my email did not get hacked, and the fact I don't use Battle.net for anything at all, I didn't really bother to reclaim my unused profile for WoW.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to say this. Congrats on the extra pre-paid time! :D

The e-mail hack seems to be popular right now. It happened to me about three days ago and to my friend two days ago. Scared me when I found another e-mail account under account recovery that wasn't mine.

I just started playing again, too. The guys went on my old character, vendored his things, and must have sent the money away. If they hadn't changed my password, I wouldn't have noticed for a long time since I started a new guy.

Blizzard restored his items and everything within about 2 hours of contacting them. I was hacked in the morning and playing again before supper.

I went back on my main, too. Weird thing was, when I logged in, he was falling through the mountain at Ice Crown Citadel. Falling through the terrain, then suddenly splat and I appear in Dalaran with resurrection sickness.

I still wonder how they got my e-mail account, and specifically for WoW too. I think it might have been some phishing scheme... Either way, I have a separate account for my battle.net now and don't even look at e-mails from "Blizzard" on the other one.

I also ordered an authenticator ($6.50 but $11 to ship to Canada... are you kidding me) but I'm still a bit worried about my e-mail getting hacked.

If you get hacked, then you're an idiot. I've played WoW for over 4 years and 13000 hours with 6 accounts and I never got hacked once, why? Because i used common sense.
I used to think the same thing. I make sure I don't get phished, I have anti-virus, and I run scans. No way to get hacked, right? Wrong. That's exactly the kind of attitude that will get you hacked.

Yeah, my account got hacked a while ago that I recently had Blizzard suspend just because. I'm sure they were pissed that it didn't have any of the expansions on it, and only had 1 lvl 60 priest on it. Suckers. Way to hack an account with NOTHING OF WORTH.

I had a friend who didn't play for a while she quit when her 'main' was around level 72 or so. She found out her account was banned when she tried to start up again it was claimed she was saying racist things. She got the account back and her main was now level 80 and had a fair level of good gear. Her alts were untouched.
