But there is online multiplayer, and it's one of the biggest draws for many players these days. Unless you meant that continuing to have a robust online feature is essential, in which case I agree with you.
Yes, but I also meant being able to explore the world with others online in addition to battling.

OT: I'm definitely against realistic graphics, a lot of Pokemon themselves would lose a lot of their charm if they were more realistic looking. I think the games currently have the perfect art style for the series.
Complete agreement. The style is not only perfect, but stylized graphics are much more timeless.

I'm also not opposed to real time battles, but I would want a game separate from the main series RPGs to do that. The battle system in Pokemon has become too deep to just trash it for whole new play style. The metagame would disappear in an instant, turning off a lot of fans. I personally feel turn based combat still has a place in modern RPGs, Pokemon especially.
Very true, and it would require designing play styles for 700+ characters, which is just not feasible. Still, I feel it's about time we had a proper, full-scale Pokemon game on console, and that would be a great way to differentiate it from the handheld titles. That said, the turn-based system is incredibly deep, so I wouldn't be at all opposed to it assuming they kept the grand scale. Hell, they could even build off of it to make something truly unique.
