I'm glad to see that it did not pass. I think that marijuana promotes more negative aspects out of people than those who don't use it. Also, every stoner I've met is the exact same, and they all get me pretty annoyed.

I have no interest in it, but there are plenty of pros for legalization, financial and otherwise, and basically no cons.
I'm for legalization, but I can't say there aren't any cons. For instance, I think it's hard to argue that DUI's would see a big increase as well as other crimes. Not to mention the fact that the FBI can still crack down on you.
I honestly think crime could only do down. Maybe there will be surge to begin with, but in the long run anyone who wants to smoke pot will, regardless of legal status. Its easy as hell to get, if someone would smoke it when legal they already do now.

Also if companies with large monetary backing mass produce and sell it they could easily undercut drug dealer prices even with taxes, saving millions of dollars and tons of police effort on catching and jailing people over pot.

This is because the people who would vote to legalize marijuana generally don't vote.

Supplementary: I have never understood the appeal of a weed high. Staring at the wall, eating all the cookies, and thinking that you're the greatest philosopher ever when you're talking nonsense? Wow. Sounds like a fun night.

So you didn't vote, but you're complaining about the outcome? You realize if you DID vote you could have made a difference, and I can guarantee the people who fall into the "I don't vote" category is huge. People who don't vote shouldn't complain about the outcome. You didn't do your part to make a difference, or even attempt to, so why should you be bothered about how it went?
I'm bothered by it and don't vote. I CANNOT vote. Remember there is an age requirement on voting. We can still care about the issues though.

OT: Both my parents voted against it. I tried to convince them but they didn't like any of my points.
Well if you're too young that's one thing, it's the apathetics that don't vote that bother me when they complain about an outcome. Like I mention, 50% of people ABLE to vote didn't in the US for the president. Even in Canada, we only voteed at 60% capacity. this isn't taking into account minors or those declared unable to due to mental handicaps that restrict a rational thought process. It's the able ones that don't vote that I have an issue with.

Yet people who smoke it will still smoke, and those who dont will continue to not smoke
And the asthmatics will continue to have to avoid smokers or we die.

Drugs should be illegal everywhere, altogether, no matter what kind it is.
Drugs like Aspirin, ... oh, I can't be bothered reeling off the list again.

Perhaps if certain drugs were de-criminalised then we could use them to save lives? But no, to some people every drug is a GATEWAY TO SATAN!

Just like games, and rock & roll, and everything else we're told to hate.

/sigh
ACTUALLY, by FDA standards today, aspirin would not have passed clinical trials. The stuff literally rots your insides.

Regardless, I don't think Marijuana should be legalized simply because american kids are stupid and impressionable and think weed is cool. It's not cool at all when you should be at school, not getting stoked. If there was a precedent for marijuana use in american culture and has been like that for a long time, maybe legalizing it would be okay, but in today's social and cultural milieu, there's no telling what havoc it would wreck on the youths.

I would vote for legalization only if it were restricted to bars and cafes that require ID and where you can't actually take any marijuana outside of the premises. Of course that won't stop the kids from getting it, but it will make it much harder to get.

I love how you seem to think this vote not passing is the issue at hand.. 50% of Americans who can vote don't and I bet every single one of them says "My one vote makes no difference!". Well how about you do some math?

California has approximately 17 million registered voters. Less then 8 million voted, leaving more then 9 million voices unheard.

Want to try telling me that 9 million peoples votes 'don't make a difference'? They only don't make a difference becauseall 9 million of them go 'duuurrrr... one vote doesn't matter!'

^This

If you don't vote, you have no right to complain and should suck it up as a consequence of your inactivity and lethargic ways.
Seconded.

"Did you make an effort to help change the world for the better then?"

"Well, no bu-"

"STFU and GTFO! You have no right to complain."

OT: Darn, I wanted to see it pass so that the world could have an example of a place where you could light up for free. At last we'd be able to compare whether the war on drugs is worth while or not. Oh well, the madness continues.

Yeah, its kinda sad to know there are democracies/republics available in parts of the world the many died to make and so many don't take advantage of it.

Sorry fellow Californians, Marijuana is STILL illegal
Proposition 19
No 3,826,487 53.8%
Yes 3,297,590 46.2%

Total votes 7124077

i guess California is still as ass-backwards as ever, especially since it was SHOWN that this would generate tax revenue for the government that they could have given to schools or to fixing roads.

EDIT: Removed some stuff to force people to discuss the ACTUAL ISSUE and not troll on me.
they're are not trolling you they're discussing the ACTUAL ISSUE, people not voting like you.

I've known many recreational drug users and I can tell you none of them are better for it.
Legalising Marijuana will generate revenue huh? Well that's not a good thing in my opinion.
Drug tests would be a daily occurrence for people; drove down to the shops? Better test you.
Oh it can remain in your system for months at a time? I sure hope they suspend all those licences.
I tried it once and I wouldn't recommend letting grandma pick the kids up from school after a toke.

Benefits, you say? What are these benefits? I understand it's already available for medicinal purposes and I feel even that's pushing it.
My father smokes the stuff to deal with back pain (at least that's his excuse) on top of that he's been on painkillers for over 15 years, I wouldn't give the stuff to him if I was a doctor, he could use the brain cells.
I don't even feel like finishing this now.

Oh dear me, I'm terrible sorry for not catering to literal minds by slapping the following message to the end of my post:

WARNING! "ADVOCACY GROUPS" MAY BE IMPLIED WHEN THE WORD "LOBBY" IS USED IN THIS POST!

And never did I imply anything along the lines of "the bullshit 'us vs. the corrupt government' bullshit." But if you actually believe that public opinion in certain questions isn't swayed or decided by the side with the most money, then I'd kindly ask you to share what you are smoking, regardless of its legality.

i swear people don't READ THE LAWS THEY VOTE FOR. Laws are not one sentence "make this legal". IT HAS CLAUSES, ADDENDUMS, TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
This is actually a big problem I have with laws. I consider myself a to be a fairly intelligent, and half the time even I can't wade through all of the legalese and other BS they put in there.

OT: You don't vote, you don't get to complain. End of story. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I mean come on, I don't smoke pot, I don't even like the idea of smoking pot, and still I did more to pass it than you did. How pathetic is that?
