So... Repopulate?

You wake up one morning,and the human race is extinct. All of it, except for you. Resources for living are plentiful so survival isn't a problem. Think "I Am Legend". After living on your own for a while you meet someone of the opposite sex. The two of you start surviving and living together. And as you know, eventually you'll have to bring up repopulation, or at least use it as an excuse.

So when do you do it?

You don't know how they're gonna react. You don't know if they're really thinking of the human race, or if they're thinking you're just horny.

And don't say you'll wait for them to break. They literally haven't thought about it until you bring it up. It's all on you.

Simple question. For me it would probably be three weeks. At the very least. I think I would've established a bond of trust by then.

Yeah, pretty much that, for the actual repopulate project. But as you said, it's probably just an excuse in the worst case. I have no idea actually how long it would take, I can't see myself survive long enough to actually meet said potential partner. If I did survive enough, it'll probably take a long time, long enough so that she'd pretty much stop giving away signals and straight up bring the subject up, yeah I'm that pitiful. Or I would randomly feel adventurous and try my luck, if I don't feel like I'm abusing of the situation (how many people do you know said no to a drunk girl that his housemate brought for him?)

The 3rd Generation of offspring would most likely be mentally disabled unless you could find another person to mate with. There isn't even a real gurante that your offspring would survive given the conditions and if you lack the training to deliver said baby safely.

Um one problem you said I have to survive on my own for a few weeks. No supervision and I will find a brilliant way to kill myself in a wonderfully horrible accident. My "mate" will find my body unable to make little versions of me.

Or I will die if I don't raid a pharmacy for the drugs that keep me alive.

But we shall assume I somehow survive for your sake OP(you owe me). I would build trust by making cave paintings inside a modern day cave like thing (maybe an underpass?) then I would show my hunting prowess by not killing myself while hunting stray dogs. Then to show my caring side I will train some of the wild animals to hunt with me (thus evolving into boyfriend).

At this point I will grunt and point at our cave(the underpass). I am sure that this would work, I mean we established trust right?

You make as many as you can turn out and then turn them loose in the wastes in hopes that they'll find a couple of others whose progenitors had the same thought. Maybe, just maybe, there might be just enough genetic diversity to resolve the population bottleneck.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. Contrary to popular belief, 2 individuals aren't enough to repopulate an entire species. To establish a viable population, I'd estimate that you'd need to begin with at least 10 individuals, 5 males and 5 females.
