So the last episode of Steven Universe season 1 was aired recently (well ok on Wiki, it's the second epsiode of season 2 but whatever) and I wanted to comment on it especially with the recent episodes.

I admit when I first start watching it after seeing the pliot, I didn't liked it mainly Steven was annoying (which cannot be helped seeing how he was the main character and filling in the comic relief tropes) and it was boring that it was kind of like a monster of the weeks at times.

Anyway it was only when Lapis lazuli episodes aired and afterward that it seen to got better for me. What I didn't liked at first was the lack of pior knowledge or rather lore of the Gems but it pretty mich slowly creep up later on-
As I predicted, the Gem are invaders to mankind but Rose Quartz rebel her own kind to defend them with Pearl and Garnet and others with her. A great battle was ensure and while Rose succeed in destroying the gates leading to Earth but victory came with a price since only 4 of them were left.

I suppose it was a good thing that I did watched it from the start as I did get a better understanding on the general theme toward Steven. To me the theme was somewhat protecting a child innocent (or growing up) or rather that Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst shield Steven from the truths about them and the reality and it came knocking on Steven hard now that there is a threat toward him. It kind of like Spider-man secret identity and if the enemy knew his real identity, his friend and family will get hurt beause they are his said friend and family.

Also another great things about the recent episode are the characters development toward the Gems given their lack of understanding toward humanity (like Amethyst childhood, Pearl was loyal toward Rose and Garnet abilities).

So anyway what do you guys think of season 1 so far as I know some of yous has been liking the recent episodes.

I really like it when the show goes into the history of the Gems, Rose and Greg since there's some implications of WAY more complicated stuff that happened when Steven was very young. The kids might not know, but we do, and I like how they just leave it to our suspicions instead of something like a flashback.
When Greg said "You know how I feel about shapeshifting!" to Amethyst while she looked like Rose... just... wow.
[small]Pearl is best Gem by the way.[/small]

It's funny because the creators of the show have said that Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem mark the true beginning of the series.

Anyway, I don't really know what to say about the series except that I like it. Although Steven is probably my second least favorite character (the worst are the teenagers that Lars hangs out with, including Lars himself. They all just kind of meld into one amorphic blob).

Not sure of what to say about the upcoming Say Uncle episode though (Steven Universe/Uncle Grandpa crossover). I'm not a fan of UG, but on the other hand, he's supposed to teach Steven how to use his gem powers. So it could go either way really.

Is...is that a joke? You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking. That's...just no.

Anyway, I too didn't really care for the show at first. I couldn't figure out what it was about, why this kid had a gem in his stomach, what the Gems were, and all that other stuff. And it was driving me nuts. Also, I found Steven to be rather annoying.
But then the background details slowly started to get filled in. A bit here, and bit there. Nothing major, but just enough to keep me interested. Like fining that next piece when putting together a 1000 piece puzzle. And then the Lapis episodes aired and I was totally on board, like many others.

A scene has Uncle G pointing a cannon at Steven.

Steven: I dunno if this is safe...

Uncle Grandpa: Don't worry kid, I'm wearing a helmet.

I hate Uncle G but that was funny to me. Might watch the crossover to see the insanity.

It took a bit for me to warm up to the show, but like others have said I grew to love it.

Also, after the Kintergarden when they blatantly reference Junji Ito...no words to describe my nerdgasm

Whatever, just wash your hands.
It started off a bit rocky, but as they put more and more world details in it I enjoy it more and more and I really liked the season 1 final, so I'm looking forward to what they have coming up. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it comes out that Pearl has some mixed feelings regarding Greg, maybe about her wanting to have been able to fuse with Rose and having some lingering resentment over not being able to anymore. Although a cross over with uncle grandpa.... ugh, I don't see how they could make that good and keep it from messing up the cannon of the world they have spent so much time building.

For me, I was hooked on this show since Day 1[footnote]Well, since the [test] pilot episode, but I digress...[/footnote] with the first Lion episode being the first episode that I really liked after it aired... With that said, I never had a problem with the show itself outside of wondering when some of the new episodes were going to premiere[footnote]Like I did <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.856988.21245660>back then...[/footnote], so I can't really agree that the show felt a bit slow and/or not quite as interesting until basically Episode 25 and beyond... (Seriously, how can you not like Steven's Lion or Giant Woman?) Plus, none of the characters bothered me at all, especially Steven and some of the other residence of Beach City, so either their first impressions rubbed you the wrong way or I'm just that tolerate to any of the show's "flaws" and shit...

Anyway, now to wait for Season 1 to get a Blu-Ray/DVD release so that I can marathon through it properly and shit... Also, in terms of this upcoming crossover, I really don't think it's going to be canon the same way some of the other episodes were... Besides, unless Rebecca Sugar says how canon this crossover is, I don't see what the big deal is...

It's honestly getting up there for one of my favorite currently running cartoons. The first season was half establishing characters and getting you to like them. Then you hit the show's stride as they start to reveal bits of actually what's going on, then finish big with a good finale that really shakes things up going into the second season. Rebecca Sugar and Co. have made something that can honestly contend with Adventure Time and such. It just has "it" for me. I enjoy the characters and the premise quite a lot. I have high hopes going into season two.

I still haven't seen every episode and I've been watching them out of order a bit, but this show is the first thing on TV I've cared about in years. Jailbreak and Full Disclosure were just the best thing ever.

I just really hope that
Lapis and Jasper come back, maybe with the Crystal gems fighting Malachite? I want...

This is one of those weird series for me, and bear with me as I might go beyond season 1, here.
Like others, I was turned off initially because of Steven being annoying. He still kinda is, but it's tempered by a lot of neat things like easter eggs, interesting characters, and so forth.
Also, the kinda intense maturity the series recently turned towards took me by pleasant surprise. It went from kinda dumb comedy to a pretty mature show which is interesting. There's also a very deep mystery, too which keeps me hooked. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

I don't see Uncle Grandpa (Pretty happy that side story of Secret Mountain Fort Awesome got spun off into a real series, though the show's kinda average and missing something from the airings in the parent show) as a huge clash in theme with Steven Universe, oddly. I mean it's not a perfect fit, but for some reason I believe they're compatible, but I'm not sure why, exactly.

I couldn't get into it and I've seen a healthy number of episodes. I think a large amount of that has to do with for some reason, I find the colours really garish and the pastels don't do anything for me.

Also Tumblr's stupid fanbase tried its damndest to ruin it and they've succeeded. I swear, Tumblr ruins everything

No... No. No. NoNononononooooooooo! I've really started to like Steven U with the amazing amount of depth and heart it's shown recently. Uncle G is the polar opposite and my least favorite CN show. Balls...

am I the only person that likes the slice of life episodes?
I fucking love them! Some of my favorite episodes, so far, have been almost nothing but slice-of-life episodes... even if they may involve characters that, even still, haven't swayed people's minds in a more positive outlook... Then again, a good chunk of them do kinda reveals certain plot points that either have already been delved deeper into and/or have yet to come up again in another episode, so there's that...

For those who has doubt about the upcoming crossover episode, here is a preview of it-

I myself never seen Uncle Grandpa nor do I really want to watched it. Also from what I read, it was Rebecca herself who approach the crossover idea and it is not canon to Steven Universe world but don't quot me on this as I don't have a source on it (read it from a tumblr post).
