Well shit, wasn't too thrilled by the concept of an FF7 remake, it was hard to pin down why I didn't want a remake, the original is a classic so the fear was they would just redo the exact same game with nicer graphics and voice artists but would tweak some stuff to 'make it better'. Or they would stick to roughly to the same story but really change the gameplay. It's looking like it's the latter and I dunno why but I am liking it, for the first time since FF10 I am actually kinda looking forward to a Final Fantasy game.

A combination of basic attacks and combos in CONJUNCTION with the old ATB system would have been nice, not sure if this is like that though. Just do so action shit, throw out simple combos for damage or positioning and then use skills and spells.

I wish they stuck to the old battle system, but even the combat change cannot change the ridiculous amount of excitement I have right meow!!!

My fav FF looks so damn beautiful.

I can't wait to see the scale of the bosses. The perspective should give them all a big upgrade. They nailed the first boss at least. The weapons should be cool :D

:D
:D
:)

Also, bombing run sounds amazing! I hope all the remixes keep the spirit of the original like that one! Can't wait to hear jenova's theme, and the world map theme!!!!!!!
Best map theme ever.

It looks like a FF7 that I could actually enjoy playing. I never got why people enjoy turn-based combat with no strategy and just inputting the same common sense commands over and over again. I like good, strategic turn-based combat like XCOM where you actually have to plan and think. Turn-based combat with just allies and enemies standing across from each other trading blows back and forth isn't strategic because there's no positioning involved whatsoever thus removing a huge amount of strategy. FF12 proves standard FF turn-based combat is so non-strategic that it only takes a few if-then-else statements for the game to play itself. Put gambits into FF7 and the game would play itself too. I don't enjoy playing games that could be automated in less than 10 lines of code. The FF series was pretty much always in this weird middle ground between wanting to be fast-paced and tactical at the same time but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either choose action combat or real strategic turn-based combat, either is fine with me but you can't do both at the same time.
Thank you! Ever since FF15 was revealed, I've been seeing this flood of "This action combat sucks because it's not STRATEGIC liked OLDER FF games" comments and I just don't understand where it comes from. Mainline Final Fantasy games have never been strategic or even really that challenging (not including some optional bosses), unless you just suck THAT MUCH at playing turn-based RPGs lol.

Final Fantasy and Square have consistently disappointed me in the last decade. The World Ends With You is the only real AAA title that they've put out in the last ten years IMHO.
Honestly, I don't think I could go through FF7 again unless the battle system is modernized and updated and tweaked. I'm actually excited about this game now.

I think you lose most of the charm by removing the camp, but it looks good. Not a fan of whatever's going on with the combat.

You said it, FPLOON! And the [test] voicework isn't too shabby, either...

Other than that, Garret's giving me the vapors right now... :p

Well, I was, until I saw it.

Are we sure this isn't a parody?
This.

That looks terrible. There is no way they are going to be able to tell the whole story like that. This just went from a day 1 purchase to a , wait for reviews and maybe pick it up after the fanboy hype dies .

I'm not entirely sure what that combat system was meant to be. I'm sure they can't have you controlling positioning real time. (Because that would be really stupid) I'm betting on being able to toggle attack and defend, and then add in spells and techniques, possibly in a queue. Which would be fine. Not exactly a Bravely Default level combat system, but an appropriate way to make battles feel lively, which is important what with all the money they've spent on making the game look good.

Don't worry guys, Square Enix knows what's important!

I can?t say the new game is completely action-based, but it has more of that element and real-time than the previous game.

However, what makes Final Fantasy and RPG different from other games is that the players have the ability to choose weapons, capabilities and magic to be strategic minded, so while the new game has more real-time element, it will also maintain that strategy building element, balancing these two factors perfectly to enhance the gaming experience.

The game is still in development, and we have not fully grasped all the abilities of and upgrades made to PlayStation 4. The graphics are superb on PlayStation 4, and more polygon volume is available to make it better.

The way we harnessed the power of the PlayStation 4 was to maintain the graphic quality of characters like Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith in the movie called Advent Children in our game, and this was the starting point. So, what we?re aiming for with the Final Fantasy VII Remake is to have the same quality of these characters in real-time while playing the game, and this is only achievable with PlayStation 4.
...wait, graphics aren't supposed to be the most important in a game ever?

Unfortunately, it's not just the "realtime" that makes me hate this. Basically, everything about this trailer puts me in the hard position of "do I avoid it because it's shit, or do I buy it and then riff on it mercilessly because it's shit?"

The combat system was desperate to be fixed or changed. It's good that they do but I'm worried about the FF(13?) Lightning-esque style where you pick your auto mechanics and watch and wait.

I hate it. I love the original game, but this just looks dreadful. The new combat troubles me (real-time combat in a game with multiple party members never goes well. I ALWAYS end up hating the party AI.), but it's not the deal breaker. That shitty over-the-shoulder camera, however, is. The scenes weren't even recognizable. This just fell from a must-play to a never mind.

I don't want to replay a game I already played! I want a FF7 meets Mario Kart sprinkled with a lethal dose of Duke Nukem and a side of City: Skylines.
That's a game worth playing!
Espers?! Wrong Final Fantasy. =P

Define "like that", because the storytelling bits look pretty much exactly like any game's story bits.

Not super happy about the new combat system, I'd prefer to keep the old ATB system in place, but I guess they HAVE to make it more modern.

I'm gonna buy it regardless.
That's the problem though. The Final Fantasy series has been stagnant ever since they got rid of ATB. If they wanna mix it up a little, fine, but they really need to bring back ATB. It's the battle system that carried the series through three, THREE console generations. Then they canned it for an admittedly-decent battle system in FFX (I liked the tactics of considering moves based on how much they'd effect future turns), and outside of that the series has been nothing to really talk about.

For all the experimenting they did with each Final Fantasy, we could always rely on the core gameplay being there. Getting rid of ATB is like a Mario platformer without the Super Mushroom; like Metroid without collecting power-ups; like Zelda without tons of tools and gadgets; like Donkey Kong without- damn... I really am a Nintendo kid, aren't I? Okay, a non-Nintendo franchise... I can do this. Um... Like Legacy of Kain without awesome time-twisty grimdark storytelling[footnote]Nosgoth, anyone?[/footnote]. Boom.

*Ahem* In short, I feel that making the remake into an Action/RPG is the worst thing they could have done with the game. They should have used this as an opportunity to bring ATB screaming back into action to remind us all of why we loved the Final Fantasy series in the first place.

The voice acting seems fairly subpar. Other than that, I don't have much to say. Going to wait for reviews before I get it for sure.

I expect combat system will be a jacked up crisis core with more npcs around (including friendlies).
So..Kingdom Heart xD

Honestly I'm indifferent to this change. I expected mechanics to be changed slightly from the originals.

What worries me far more though, is the story and possible character redesigns (both in looks and in personality).
Way too worried about emo Clould becoming the norm for example.

You ever tried Star Ocean 2 by any chance? One of the most fun rpgs I played where there was real time combat with ai controlled party members.

looks like a revamp Crisis Core battle system which is fine, most people that played the original FF7 are now too busy with life and few are still active gamers, most gamers that will remember FF7 will do it because of Crisis Core and to them this a more accessible battle system. Also like you said if we want the old game with the old gameplay is available just about everywhere (PC, PS3, PS4, PSP, VITA, Android, iPhone) I mean come on you want to play the same game you have more than enough places to get it.

The thing I'm most intrigued by though is how the party system work, I hope I get to control all my party members not just look at them being controlled by an AI. I want to switch between them and play as all of them... I wonder if Vincent will control the same as he did in Dirge of Cerberus.
