It looks like a fun adventure movie. Not unlike pirates of the Caribbean. In a review by our local newspapers critic that's what he said it seemed like a mostly positive review and that guy hates everything.
So the Prince of Persia film sucks apparently

And seriously, what's with all the hate on Jake Gyllenhaal as the prince? So what if he isn't Middle Eastern. He's also not a prince, and there is no such thing as a dagger that controls the sands of time. It's a movie based on a video game, not a documentary on the lives of ancient Persians.
Part of me hoped this film would be good, the other part of me wanted it to crash and burn spectacularly.
Caught the trailer while I was off seeing Iron Man 2 - there just wasn't anything in there that jumped out at me at all (in the POP trailer that is).
Alas, being that the Sands of Time were one of my favourite games series, I'd probably ending complaining (either to myself, or out loud) to every little deviation from the game. So, I'll probably be giving it a miss.

i really do hope it does well cause if it does it will encourage better writers and directors to make more movies based on games. AND maybe cause a trend in movies like how comics are turning into movies. Seeing how iron man two was done i would not mind if video game movies were made the same way
We really gotta stop getting our hopes up over these films. If a good one actually does come along we'll probably go so far into denial that physchologists will do case studies on the gamer community.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Farah looks like an airhead, and so does the Prince. And I recently saw a commercial which made it look even worse, although I think I heard an actual line they said in the game. A few points for that.

For certain reasons, i just can't take gyllenhaal seriously in roles like this. Kinda like in the way that i can never watch keanu reeves without thinking of TED.
You can never really properly preserve a videogame story for a movie. So you have to expect a worse story. But as long as it's not as different and as shitty as Alone In the Dark, it will be fine.
I mean, if Uwe Boll made it, the Dagger of Time would have nothing to do with the movie, and it would be about Christian Slater and Tara Reid trying to get some unexplained Native American artifacts.

No matter how good this film could be, it is going to get many reviewers that say it is 'sh!t', purely because of its origins.
Let's assume that the film really is utter garbage. How many good films are there actually out there that were based on a video game? I personally can't think of any but someone on the Escapist is bound to have a better movie memory.
