Have any of you been watching TV or listening to the radio recently? Have you heard all of the bogus news they show... I was watching a streaming news feed about Osama being killed when it gets interrupted for breaking new about Justin Beiber getting in trouble on an airplane; does anyone else see this as ridiculous?

Shockingly, the average person likes to think more about celebrity drama than politics.

If you were watching FOX news, that hardly surprises me, other than the fact that people actually are stupid enough to consider anything on FOX "News".

I don't watch TV for news. TV is terrible. I get my news from the internet mainly, and from ad-free radio. I try to find the most unbiased news reporting I can that cover a wide range of topics. I avoid celebrity gossip at all costs.

Well for one i don't watch t.v cause of this sort of thing. its all conditioning and programing. Believe it or not there are peoples who's jobs are to think of the best way to market products and commercials on channels. So this sort of thing is no surprise to me. Specially after hearing how bad Beiber is doing these days.

Do any of you realize news is a business? As in profit driven? "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Grow up.

Its not just America, its most of the western world. the US is just the biggest offender. That why I listen to The X (radio station). They just play rock, and Mark Madden is pretty funny. He's going off about how (American) Football player Rashard Mendenhall can make some some <url=http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Rashard-Mendenhall-isn-t-convinced-bin-Laden-was?urn=nfl-wp1769>"anti American" tweets in light of Osama's death. Its relatively funny (at least to me, but I'm not a big (American) Football fan).

... Though I'm being (slightly) hypocritical. I was rather annoyed when I missed the Last fifteen minutes of Celebrity Apprentice to wait to hear Obama say we got Osama. But then again, I didnt care that much. I always figured he'd die and we wouldnt know.

Still, its nice to see an "America is wrong becasuse __________" thread again.

Dude, I been to several countries, and it's just as bad.
I'm amazed Osama's wife isn't suing for his wrongful death or something or the other...

Just one of the many reasons I posit that the average person is a moron, and that it is best to maintain deep suspicion of anything broadly popular on the grounds that it is broadly popular with morons. Huzzah for being a cantankerous purveyor of vitriol and hyperbole on the interwebs!

But seriously, people are freaking stupid and care more about the most inane and irrelevant crap you can imagine than things that are actually important, and the news business is in fact a business - giving your customers what they want, no matter how stupid and pointless it may be, is simply how one stays in business.

24 hour news is that absolute worst thing ever created. Journalistic integrity is thrown out the window once you become desperate for ratings, and the show gets spread so damn thin they have to resort to stupid shit like Justin Bieber. Don't bother with those sources, get your news elsewhere.

It's not that people don't care about important stuff. It's that many people often don't want to constantly hear about it. This can be for a variety of reasons, such as politics often covering subjects that are depressing, uncomfortable, frustrating, etc. People don't want to constantly surrounded themselves with such negativity. Celebrity gossip is something that people can discuss freely without worrying about the implications it could mean for them, hence why so much attention is devoted to it. At least that's what I think about it.

Of course it's ridiculous. Though, I must confess that I don't LISTEN to it.
