I honestly have no idea why all the music magazines (at least where I live) are making a big deal out of it. The guy was a talentless hack that shamelessly ripped off his favourite artists. He deserves only a minute amount of the credit given to him.

He was the frontman of Nirvana, and he blew his head off. I like Nirvana, but he probably doesn't deserve this much attention.

Edit: Damn, ninja'd.

It was different if you were there at the time. I was 14 and death wasnt a big part of my life. Then to find out that someone I listened to every day (at the time) was dead and wouldnt be making anymore music was a very odd concept. I imagine its different for those who got into Nirvana after hed died. I still find it odd to see teenagers walking round in Nirvana merch. He was dead before they even knew who he was.

I preferred Alice in Chains myself but most people have no idea who Lane Staley is. Mores the pity. I wanted to name my son Lane but my partner vito'd it. Doubley so when i explained the background.

Kurt Cobain wasn't talentless. He was no Eddie Van Halen but he knew how to use his AMP and guitar.

The thing is Nirvana was somewhat important for the music industry in the 90's and because of that the magazines make such a big deal out of it.

Also he still earns a lot of money (I think in 2007 he earned more money than Elvis).

Shit, it's been fifteen years? Christ. Sad to think of why he died and what was happening before hand (going through divorce, fearing for his life because of that crazy ***** Courtney, etc.)

Just because you dont feel someone deserves credit or recognition doesn't mean they wont get it.

I'm no fan of certain popular artists but they still are inescapably present in our culture to the point where even not actively listening to the radio myself or watching TV, I still have to hear about whats 'in' even if its ears bleedingly bad.

So I guess this is a case of get used to it. Popular things are necessarily good, I'm sure you've noticed other people/groups getting recognition you felt they didn't deserve.

Nirvana made a lot of people aware of a lot of bands they wouldn't have been interested in otherwise and Kurt's death is an event that a lot of us remember.

I saw them a few years ago at Donnington festival. They were good but Lanes voice was so distinctive.

If I had a time machine Id go back and see them as they were meant to be. I feel like I missed out.

It's a pity, I suppose, that I really was never a fan of Nirvana.
They kill that band on the radio where I live though. Practically every other song is a Nirvana song.

Shotgun death is crazy though.
Like, is that was drugs do? Make you crazy enough to be like "oh hey, this fully loaded death machine could never harm me if I pulled th---" of course then *bam* or *bang* or *gun sound*.

The reasin he is so important is that he was the frontman for Nirvana, the last good rock band. After he died (possibly murdered...) the music industry became super depressed, got massively drunk, and decided that hip hop was a good idea. If I had a time machine the first thing I would do is make sure that Kurt Cobain didn't die.

Was it really necessary to make this topic in such a trolling way? If you don't like the guy, why even bother starting the topic? It's surely better to leave it to someone who does, no?

I dunno, just seems like a deliberate attempt to stir up trouble really.

I'm not the biggest Nirvana fan in the world - I have all their albums, but I wouldn't go around wearing their t-shirt or whatever. He was a decent songwriter and played his instrument competently enough to do what he wanted to do with it... I fail to see how he's talentless. Not everyone is Steve Vai or that bloke from Dream Theater, nor should they have to be.
