The thing about Kurt that suprises me is: He never liked the idea of "fans". He never loved the idea of being a celebrity. He just wanted to do music for himself.

Kinda weird though...Why get in the music business?

Anyway R.I.P. You kids should be ashamed to wish his death.

It was different if you were there at the time. I was 14 and death wasnt a big part of my life. Then to find out that someone I listened to every day (at the time) was dead and wouldnt be making anymore music was a very odd concept. I imagine its different for those who got into Nirvana after hed died. I still find it odd to see teenagers walking round in Nirvana merch. He was dead before they even knew who he was.

I preferred Alice in Chains myself but most people have no idea who Lane Staley is. Mores the pity. I wanted to name my son Lane but my partner vito'd it. Doubley so when i explained the background.
Man I was gutted when Layne died, such horrible circumstances too. Just so happens he's been dead for 7 years today. Strange how he and Kurt share the same death day, just 8 years apart.

RIP Kurt and Layne.

On topic-ish: Incidentally it's also (near enough) the anniversary of Layne Staley's death. Anyone else going to be listening to some AiC today? I know I've already got Dirt lined up.
Yes.

The world is better off without whiney little emo douchebags like him.
You clearly need some education on what emo is.

The ego maniacal douschebag killed grunge, making sure the only equivalent we have today is that emo crap.
And so do you. Has everyone turned stupid today?

Well seeing as how he tried to kill himself twice I don't really see much of a reason to mourn him.

I honestly have no idea why all the music magazines (at least where I live) are making a big deal out of it. The guy was a talentless hack that shamelessly ripped off his favourite artists. He deserves only a minute amount of the credit given to him.
Nothing is ever original, and inspiration had to start from some place.

The reasin he is so important is that he was the frontman for Nirvana, the last good rock band. After he died (possibly murdered...) the music industry became super depressed, got massively drunk, and decided that hip hop was a good idea. If I had a time machine the first thing I would do is make sure that Kurt Cobain didn't die.
Hip-hop was around long before Nirvana.

The amount of ignorance the young kids have on this thread is staggering.

It's kind of depressing seeing all the people bashing the guy. Sure he wasn't the greatest thing to hit rock ever, but he was still not that bad, and to be happy at someones death is in no circumstances, acceptable. Unless it's Hitler, that's cool.

Nirvana isn't really my favorite band, not by a longshot, but I can appreciate the influence they've had on music. At the time of Nevermind's release they knocked Michael Jackson out of the #1 spot on the Billboard charts! The King of Pop got dethroned by some garage band from the Seattle area. How cool was that? Plus, they helped kill off the hair metal movement that had been inbreeding since the 80s began. Death to Wacko Jacko's reign as well as Guns N Roses'. Pure awesome.

I'm not the biggest Nirvana fan in the world - I have all their albums, but I wouldn't go around wearing their t-shirt or whatever. He was a decent songwriter and played his instrument competently enough to do what he wanted to do with it... I fail to see how he's talentless. Not everyone is Steve Vai or that bloke from Dream Theater, nor should they have to be.
Ability doesnt equate awesome music. Look at Herman "shred" Lee. He has a studio do amazing things with a guitar. while he sits and sucks his thumb. BUT, Dragonforce is hardly amazing music.
Fixed for you.

No. Just no. The loss of any life is worth commemorating. Whether or not you agree, he's a legend.

Get over it you troll.

He shot himself with a shotgun...

Seriously the lack of respect on this thread is incredible - you don't seem to realize what a massive impact Nirvana had on the music industry - whether you like them or not they were influential.

WHOA, that's really wierd - I just turned the tv on and the very first thing I see is a news story about Kurt Cobain's death, right as I'm reading this thread o_O

Anyway, I don't really like Nirvana that much, but I do understand how they influenced rock music and made it what it is today (for better and worse, I guess). And it's always too bad when someone dies in their prime.
