I've never seen Evangelion, yet I love robot stuff. Is it any good? I heard the main guy was painful to watch
I never had a problem with him, I just lost interest halfway down the anime. I didn't care for any of the characters.
I might skip it then. I'm watching more mech shows since Gurren Lagann, I just started Captain Earth and it was awesome.
You should give it a go, the director's clinical depression gets worse and worse as the episodes go and that combined with some specific real world events (budget ran out too soon, for instance) resulted in an ever morphing show which is quite interesting to experience. Juuuust don't marathon it, I made that mistake and was in a very dark mood for a good week afterwards, it gets really heavy later on and End of Evangelion just full on mind fucks you from beginning till end. Which I guess makes sense because the whole movie was basically a middle finger to everyone who hated the original ending

I say it's worth watching just for the sake of saying you've seen it, although I can't say for sure if you'll like it or not. But even so, it's one of the most influential and popular anime from the 90s. I say that makes it worth checking out at least.

Well, they're both giant sentient robots, right? I'm not familiar with Evangelion.
The Evangelions are living beings. The Evangelions are a mix of Angel and human DNA that have been partially lobotomized and restrained to allow humanity to control it's enormous power.

So it's basically NGE, and then a space ship lands... with Transformers. Whatever helps Gainax squeez more money out of that good old teat, eh.
Angels beat the shit out of them.

...Okay now I'm curious, if only because I want to see Optimus Prime kicking angel ass. (Grabs a tub of popcorn)

Maybe Optimus can help Shinji man up a little and be kind of a step father to him.

Well I can see this coming up again rather quickly.
Putting aside deep and meaningful content, I managed to get like 75% through Evangelion but just... stopped. Things got real boring real quick. This could be fun I guess.

Ok that is a weird combination to say the least!

Either way if it has less angst/ Shinji whinny and more of Optimus Prime and co kicking Angels arses then I all up for it!

Who are you kidding? Shinji is going to be Voiced by Shia LaBeouf.
...I can seriously imagine that happening... right down to the multiple "No" lines when he has to team up with Optimus in an Eva...

OT: Neon Genesis: Transformagelion!!

I seriously want to read/watch the shit out of this!! I don't care how fucked up this gets... It might just have a better conclusion than NGE itself... or Transformers Prime, I guess...

Any piece of fiction that includes less Shinji and more Optimus Prime is automatically doing something right in my book.
Amen. This should be... interesting. I want to see how Megatron falls into this.

This already happened. They called it the Transformer Movies directed by Michael Bay. Seriously, Sam Witwicky/Shia Lebouf may as well be called Shinji Ikari and its a perfect fit already. Seriously, think about it.

Looking at the magazine picture, I'm really just under the impression that it will be a toy. Not much weirder than all the other transformer marvel character toys or anything. Pretty cool nonetheless.

Gurren Lagann and Evangelion are from the same studio and at first seem to be in the same genre, but they really could not be any more different. Gurren Lagann is basically the anti-Evangelion.

It sounds interesting to say the least. I am actually more surprised that someone hasn't crossed them over sooner to be honest with you. I am not really a fan of either series, but I would probably check it out out of curiosity if nothing else.

Well, we can have Doctor Who crossing over with Star Trek (though it would be pretty easy to make the Doctor cross over with pretty much anything) so why not this? It almost sounds like fan fiction to me, but seems like it could be crazy enough to work.
