So Valve released Diretide

Yeah, it's a thing now. They had a big blog post about what was going on with Diretide, why it wasn't released, why they didn't tell us it wasn't going to come and everything nice. I'm certainly looking forward to trying out some Diretide tomorrow seeing as I missed out on it last year. In the meantime...

Well, it's like the old saying goes, "the squeaky, shrill, obsessive, spoiled, entitled, annoying, exasperating, unstable, psychotic wheel gets the grease."

I'm an avid TF2 player, but you wouldn't see me throwing a hissy fit if Valve decided to delay or cancel the annual "Scream Fortress" Halloween update, or any other update for that matter.

I don't play DOTA 2, but I kinda fell in love with the Diretide fiasco.

A good portion of the people involved seemed to be self-aware enough to know how ridiculous the whole thing was, and what made it better was how good of a sport Volvo (the car company) was about it. I feel kinda bad for Valve though to work overtime to force Diretide out though, especially since they passed it up for a bigger update.

I suppose the lesson to take away from this is the importance of company/community communications, which we all know how infamously bad Valve are at. If the community knew why Diretide wasn't coming out, and the company were more informed on what the player-base wanted, this never would have happened.

Now everyone's going to complain about how they're not getting new content because Valve had to spend time shipping Diretide.

ITT: People having no idea why there was a blowup in the community, and it doesnt have that much to do with Diretide.

OT: Honestly, Diretide is just the cherry on the top. Since they -finally- came out and said SOMETHING about what they are doing, and the hint of the big update... its good. Going like 3 months with only a numbers balance was kinda infuriating when every week 17,362 cosmetic pieces were being push into the game.

I sent a message to the Dota 2 team after I saw it. These guys are great.

I know a good chunk of the people took part in the whole mess for the sake of it. They thought it would be a good joke and a lot of people found it hilarious (I know I did). But it was also a lot of people getting pissed about Valve not communicating with the player base and that they just kinda cancelled it and left players hanging. Of course it's still doesn't mean they have the right to complain. The game is free so they should just shut the hell up and be happy its not like LoL's shitty model where people have to BUY heroes.

By buy he means in game points it takes ages to grind, so everyone just buys riotpoints and pics up whatever they want.

Pretty much. Some people seem to forget that these things take a lot of work, and they may be busy doing other, more important things.

Heh I'm glad they got it but honestly this is a lesson in the crappy, "free to play, pay to look cool" model of gaming. No one is going to pay to look cool in a game they are pissed off about, and aren't sure if they are going to see updates or what not in there game they are paying for. If you want to keep your opinion up with the consumers so they actually pay to consume your product, GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT.


Also I see people drop 100's a month in LOL rune cards so that's paying for some heroes at least.

Lastly don't believe in " oh ya we were really in the middle of making this thing we can't say anything about that didn't come out in time." It's like believing xbone 24 hour check in was gonna be good because they just said it was and didn't explain it.

If they would've took people two weeks or so before Halloween that it was going to be late you'd have a few pissed off people still but everyone else would have waited nicely for it lol.
