Well we got RDR which is a shining example of a cowboy game, but what other genres-if you will-do you want to see nextand what do you want from it?

Mass Effect is an awesome sci-fi epic that rivals Star Wars (Star Wars trumps it because, it's well Star Wars), but feel free to dispute that.

Personally, I would love an awesome pirate game. You could start as a swabby and eventually mutiny your captain yadayada. I'd love to have the ability to customise your ship (within reason), including a custom flag. The ability to raid British vessels along with other pirate ships and merchant ships would be an awesome addition, each helping in their own way when raided. The ability to pillage is direly needed along with epic sea battles which involves firing cannons, fighting invaders off your own ship and then boarding the enemy.

I'd love a new open world RPG to come along and better Oblivion/Fallout.
Aren't TES and FO open world RPG's?
Something medieval would be nice.

I know it's a shame PC gamers don't get it, but it might come out eventually, that tends to happen on some of the bigger console releases. Also, I'd like to point out you said it wasn't on PC and didn't get all Rage crazy foaming from the mouth. Thank you for that.

I'm still waiting for my extreme weather origami game god damn it, That should be next!

I'm pretty sure there were some decent pirate-based games in 2004 and on.

Something very loosely based on, you know, pirates of the Caribbean. I kinda liked it back then, the ships were cool and taking 'em over was even better. Not to speak of sacking the ports... Although obviously enough there could be worlds of improvements.

Screw pirates, vikings are just the same only better.

An opinion I agree with though, a Viking game similar to what the OP described would be epic. The game would be brutal as fuck combat-wise, and have some epic Viking tale involving characters from Norse mythology and stuff.

The Age of Pirates games were great, but they were sort of "budgety" and slow. It felt like Far Cry 2, you go in with a 'mission' and then it just gets forgotten until very late in the game.

Still, while we wait I'd recommend Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships. It's one of the best there is for now...

Sid Meier might want to have a word with you. He made that game twice already.

(Except that you can raid British, Dutch, French, and Spanish ships.)

As far as I know RDR was so far overbudget and took so long to make that the parent Rockstar studios were ready to pull the plug at various points during development, but chose to let San Diego finish the game mainly as an AAA game test for the studio more than anything else. I remember reading that the game became so expensive that Rockstar think it is near-impossible for them to actually make a profit out of it. So it makes sense that they would release the console versions as soon as humanly possible, when you have someone screaming "FINISH THIS SHIT OR DIE" in your ear all the time. I'd expect them to tune it up for a PC release as well soon though.

The most recent version was all kinds of fun!

I would personally like a decent Viking game as well. Or a God of War style game based on Norse rather then Greek mythology (God of War: Ragnarok!)

Well what else is there to go with after a western go with about the same time period but in a different part of the world, I am speaking of a Samurai Game, but I think it should be done right I mean I love action but the game should be highly focused around what they were truly like helping people out and not just running around killing people. The samurai were not very into the idea of just killing well some of them others always had duels with other samurai, and then there were the rouge samurai. Anyways I love the way samurai lived and I really want to see one that is amazing.

Your opinion, maan...

I "third" that notion. A proper game about vikings would have all sorts of awesome - raiding and pillaging things, splatterfest combat, Norse mythology... it could make a nice opponent to God Of War.

***

But what i really would like to see is a proper steampunk game. Maybe a good linear FPS or TPS, maybe something like GTA, it dosen't matter. For some arbitrary reason, steampunk is hardly represented in gaming - it's not as mainstream as sci-fi or even the aforementioned western.

I would indeed like a good Pirate game.

People talking about viking games with brutal combat and norse mythology. It already exists, it's called Rune.

A decent space combat game? Been awhile...

A sandbox game set in a Blade-Runner style world (perhaps we'll get something along those lines with Syndicate?)

And perhaps something in the Heavy Rain vein, but with Sci-fi/Fantasy leanings, I don't think the acting would seem so off and uncanny, and the inevitable plot holes can all be blamed on Magic/Runestones/hugely advance time-stopping technology...

There was an alright Viking game a little while back. You could duel wield swords and axes and other weapons and engrave them with runes for magic effects and you had to kill undead etc etc. I can't remember it's name though, I played it at a friends place.

Pirates do sound fun though. Would probably turn into a waterborne Freelancer though with melee coming in when you were boarded.
