Well we got RDR which is a shining example of a cowboy game, but what other genres-if you will-do you want to see nextand what do you want from it?

Mass Effect is an awesome sci-fi epic that rivals Star Wars (Star Wars trumps it because, it's well Star Wars), but feel free to dispute that.

Personally, I would love an awesome pirate game. You could start as a swabby and eventually mutiny your captain yadayada. I'd love to have the ability to customise your ship (within reason), including a custom flag. The ability to raid British vessels along with other pirate ships and merchant ships would be an awesome addition, each helping in their own way when raided. The ability to pillage is direly needed along with epic sea battles which involves firing cannons, fighting invaders off your own ship and then boarding the enemy.
It'd be cool if someone did that and made it an RPG. You know a proper one where you get to customise your pirate and give it a name and choose the sex and main weapon or skill. That'd be all kinds of awesome ^_^

Maybe we should send a memo to Bioware to send us a Pirate RPG? Hehe.

Aren't TES and FO open world RPG's?
Something medieval would be nice.
Mount and Blade says hello.

I'm all for a Grand Theft Boat-ish Viking or Pirate game. That would be really awesome.

I would argue with that title, and say Gun was a very good cowboy game for the PS2.
I agree. Gun was decent. RDR is epic.

OT: Colonial America era RPG mystery story, please. ^_^

I don't think that a game set in 1900's Japan would be that fun. Pre- or early Edo would be much better imo. But a open-world samurai game? Yes...Just yes.

Screw pirates, vikings are just the same only better.
Yeah, but vikings are kinda restrictive.
Aside from sailing loads, not really much to do (raid i guess...)

Have people forgotten Sid Meier's Pirates?
Hell naw man! I was playing the remake of it like a week ago!

I'd like to see a Red Dawn-ish game, with guerilla warfare! You can set up snares and bombs and holes and tripwires and use the hot girls as bait (more like JAIL BAIT :D).

EDIT: OK, so...

Ambushing convoys gets you food (increases morale and health)
Capturing soldiers (alive) gets you information (about fortifications and convoys)
Tagging walls gets you morale and respect (increases the chance others will join you)
Assaulting fortifications gets you new weapons

BUT, heres the kicker!
If you ambush too many convoys, they'll start sending APC (armoured personnel carriers) out, and eventually tanks!
If you capture too many soldiers, eventually they'll start moving in pairs, then only packs, then entire squads! and at that stage, the only way to capture people is to ambush them
Tag too many walls and security will increase

Assaulting fortifications will lower the things closer to normal (no more tanks etc)

I'd love a new open world RPG to come along and better Oblivion/Fallout.

Lol you misread my post... what I was wishing for is a new game in the same open world style that would better those two games. I was using 'better' as a verb.

You should try "Sid Meier's Pirates!" "Tortuga" "Port Royale 2" and of course the first Pirates of the Carribean game which is an excellent rpg unlike the more recent mediocre action games in PoC series.

They're like normal westerns, but in space
Firefly: The Game!

sadly though i dont think it can be done in a way that could give the show the credit it deserves.

Your opinion, maan...

An opinion I agree with though, a Viking game similar to what the OP described would be epic. The game would be brutal as fuck combat-wise, and have some epic Viking tale involving characters from Norse mythology and stuff.
I "third" that notion. A proper game about vikings would have all sorts of awesome - raiding and pillaging things, splatterfest combat, Norse mythology... it could make a nice opponent to God Of War.
And I "fourth" that notion. And my split personality "fifths" it. A decent viking game is something we could all enjoy.

A good gladiator game. Viking's had a chance, they squandered it on Viking, so next up is Gladiator's right? Before it the whole wheel comes around and it's viking's turn again.

Erm, a BETTER cowboy game? RDR is great, but there is always room for a better game in a genre.

Also, a new pirate game would be nice. SM Pirates is fun, but I always like something new.

Well what else is there to go with after a western go with about the same time period but in a different part of the world, I am speaking of a Samurai Game, but I think it should be done right I mean I love action but the game should be highly focused around what they were truly like helping people out and not just running around killing people. The samurai were not very into the idea of just killing well some of them others always had duels with other samurai, and then there were the rouge samurai. Anyways I love the way samurai lived and I really want to see one that is amazing.
no, that's exactly how they were like. It was all about who had the money. Bushido in the terms taht all samurai abided by its rules is fairly recent idea(within this century).

Just because you have a rule book from centuries ago and a few stories doesn't make it true.

Jade Empire remade would be perfectly acceptable : D
