Why would i bother with something like that if it's only going to be outdated in a few years?
PC's are the best way to go.
Oh goody an elitist. We need more of those.

I can't play tons of of old PC games because my PC is to updated to play them, and even if I can there's plenty of graphical glitches and whatnot.

Support for either (or both) Extreme High Definition (1440p) or Super Hi-Vision

I'll keep on dreaming.

If it doesn't have virtual reality, there isn't any reason to upgrade. All the HD in the world isn't going to convince me I'm doing anything other than sitting on my ass playing video games.

I think we are quite some distance away from that stage. I'd be suprisied if proper VR is introduced into home systems during my life time.

Not another console, please. Can't we just be happy with what we have for the moment. To quote Yahtzee, now that we've achieved total realism we should be focusing on making BETTER GAMES.

Very good, sir.

OT: Look, if they can make a console that's basically a compact uber computer I'll be happy. It would be pointless though due to having and uber computer next to it, but whatever.

Indeed, so I will try to be nice when I say to all the hardworking programmers who make modern games look pretty: approximately 50% of you can go home. The entertainment industry does not need you. If you know anyone who can write good storylines with interesting characters, tell them to give us a call.

In agreement, all the crazed lust for shinier graphics just pushes up dev costs and makes games cost $60 a pop and a huge gamble for everyone with each game released.

I hope for at least 5 more years of the current consoles personally. don't just throw millions at a new console, let people learn how to use the current tech, look at God of War II, that came out near the end of the PS2's life cycle.

More power...basically.

Allowing for more detailed physics, graphics, and most importantly...AI. Good AI is possible now, but if you want lots of characters on screen, they're probably going to be a little less than clever.

I would also like for them not to appear for a while yet.

Integrated screenshot capture and video recording, perhaps a social network to share clips and stats from all games.

Been my dream since the advent of the latest Bungie.net.

Sure, some games do it, but wouldn't it be rad to have that in EVERY game?!

This. Everyone keeps saying "graphics can't get much better, blah, blah, blah." Well, graphics can't get much better, but physics and the amount of detail in environments sure as hell can. I won't be happy until I can play a game where I can pick up everything and take it apart.

We've got pseudo-realistic graphics right now, but that doesn't mean we couldn't use more processing power in our machines: graphics aren't the only thing games are made of after all.

Generally, Sony needs to make the next iteration of their developer software easier to pick up: it was a huge stumbling block for them in the beginning.

Nintendo needs to make their next machine support the Wii control method, but it should also be more open to a classic style of controller as well, and one that isn't as fucked-up as the Gamecube's, which I find is only good as a fight pad.

Microsoft needs to lure in some new first-party IPs, and make sure that their next machine doesn't brick even HALF as often as the 360 did. It would also behoove them to be more open with Xbox Live, and what they allow developers to do with it.

Of course, I don't think we need new consoles any time soon. Keep these fellows around for six years or so.

Excuse me if I'm wrong (and I'm not) but don't PCs have the same problem? A PC will be outdated every five years or so, because you'll need better processing power and new graphics cards, sure you can upgrade them individually as you go, but at the end of the day you still paying a lot of money to upgrade.

I would want the new X-box to not sound like it begs for the sweet release of death everytime I play so no more of those loud hums and clatters. I turned it horizontal which was supposed to diminish it but it was still humming away for hours after I stopped playing.

Funny that you should say that.Seeing as how to keep up with PC gaming, you have to spend oodles of money to make a good rig,and then update every 3-4 years.

OT:I don't really want next gen.I really just want Sony,Microsoft and Nintendo to do what they are doing right now.And that is updating their current consoles.

For both xbox live and psn to be "Bridged" so that players can finally get along.
This here would be brilliant for me. Half of my friends have 360s and are on live, the other half have PS3s and so they are on PSN. I have both but I want to be able to play with all of my friends at once, and also it would mean that in the lesser multiplayer games where only like 5 people on each online system play, there would be ten people overall!

Backwards compatibility.
Definitely this. If I want to play a PS2 game I don't want to have to unplug the ps3 and put it to the side to plug in the PS2 and then do the whole thing again when I want to play PS3.

Also, there is the one thing that the consoles really NEED: not to shit themselves inside out every now and then. I am talking about the red ring of death, the yellow light of death, the blue screen of death and the "being a wii and therefore having maybe 5 decent games overall" of death.

Speaking of games, I know this is unrelated to the hardware. But how about this: either give the 360 some decent exclusives, stop handing all of the 360 exclusives to the PS3, or just stop having exclusives all together so that people only need to buy one console. That last sentence was purely regarding the flame wars between PS3s and 360s and had nothing to do with PCs, who end up with a port of pretty much everything anyway, and Nintendo who just kind of do their own thing.

Got a little off topic with the software for a bit there so lets get back to the juicy hardware. Give up on the fucking gimmicks. That means no 3D, no motion controls, no virtual reality and for everyone to stop trying to make gamers more fit.
