Games were blamed for the Newtown massacre.

Therefore, I won't play any shooters on Friday because of the obvious rule that correlation = causation that we all know is correct.

Many gamers are doing this. That's fine, I can't stop them.
YES!

OH MY GOD! THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER!

I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE IS GOING TO DO THIS!

Seriously guys, if a few of us don't play shooters on one day, then it'll 100% definitely make the front page of the New York Times and all the other big newspapers in the entire world! Then, the NRA will see that we didn't play video games on one day and they will look like idiots! The whole world will be forced to realize that, because some people didn't play shooters on one day, video games don't cause violence... Yep, that'll show 'em.

God... whoever came up with this idea is a genius.

They're certainly not an attention craving fool.

Definitely not...

The way I see it is this:

There may be a weak link between violent video games and actual violence, it seems silly to disregard it entirely.
However, the benefit of playing video games on my general enjoyment of life is well worth the very slight risk of negative consequences to myself. The same can be said about drinking in moderation, eating steak, and not studying new languages every single night.

The abstinence program will surely do more damage in the long run (to take any other straight abstinence program as an example). This is also the reason any changes to prevent "video game" massacres should be slowly phased in, whether their video game related or not.

I did it to prove that playing videogames with violence is a choice that I can choose not to participate in at any time and that it has no bearing on my personality/mental capacity.

I completely forgot about that, I was going to play Borderlands all day just to spite those idiots. I was even considering doing a let's play, and calling it the Christmas Murderathon, just to piss people off.

I'm doing it.
I might finally be able to pick up that achievement in Mirror's Edge for not shooting anybody.

And by the way, it's not about blaming games, they're not blaming anybody.
It's just a show of respect, you know, like the traditional "moment of silence"
Yeah, it doesn't actually do anything but it's still a nice little notion.
But I'd like to point out by putting down shooters for the day, most people and probably the media would think that not only shototers caused it but we accept that.

And beside, if we are going to stop shooters, then stop driving, ironing, cooking, folding, walking and breathing.

Because they all have as much to do with it as gaming does.

I didn't play any shooters yesterday, but not because I was participating.

I didn't fire up my XBox at all yesterday, my PS3 played only Netflix, and the only title I played on my PC was Magic 2013.

I was unaware of this day in advance and must sadly admit that I did not play violent video games to spite the knee jerk, brain glaze types. I would have. Instead, I played some minecraft.

If you believe there is a connection between video games and violent crimes you must believe that video games reduce the occurrence of violent crimes. You must believe that particular way because that is, inarguably, the only way it could be. There has been a steady decline in violent crime rates in the United States for several decades. This is not debatable, it is simple proven fact.

Personally, I do not believe the downturn in violence is related to video games, it may be. That being said, it is impossible that video games are making Americans more violent simply because Americans are becoming less violent.

You're playing shooters!? Don't you know the truth about Shooting games? They're the worst thing in invention.

You're playing a game that glorifies killing, for your own (possibly sexual) satisfaction. You should all die the deaths that you're fantasising about. Satanists!!!!

So sayeth the NRA.

It's probably not the best way to show support for this incident, but people can show their support however they wish. Perhaps a better idea would be to play Call of Duty, and deliberately skip that airport level.....

I made sure to kill TONS of virtual people on Friday. So I could vent my frustration with idiots on TV and other media, with the NRA, and stop myself from wanting to kill them in real life.

The NRA really screwed the pooch when they opened their mouths about the Lanza shooting. They should have stuck to their normal playbook and kept their stupid mouths shut. Instead they attack the first amendment to protect the second. Some real fucking patriots there.

They've just put themselves in the same camp as Jack Thompson, who has since faded into obscurity, thinking they were protecting their right to gun ownership. They need a leadership change.

To be fair, they were kinda ok until their big leadership change which turned them into what they are today =\

Exactly! That is why they need to change the people running the organization today, they represent the gun industry more than gun owners anymore.

Yeah but I have absolutely no faith in different leadership to not blame games instead of the US' idiot gun culture.

Smarter leadership would have kept their mouth shut until the shooting was a distant memory, and never made any comments on it directly. Instead they came out with ideas that most people would find preposterous. That is why better leadership is needed.

(Before I get reported, I am of course joking).
Yeah, I might do that, too.

I'm not joking.

People are morons, and I won't let this dictate my actions.

Playing a violent game out of "Spite" is not only petty, but pretty fucking childish.

I'll play whatever the hell I want, whether that be anything from Kirby's Epic Yarn to finally getting around to downloading that new Dark Souls DLC, and it won't be out of some kiddie "get back" plan against the morons who believe whatever FOX tells them is reality.

This thread kind of depresses me, that some of you seem to think that choosing to play a game because some people said they weren't because of their misinformed opinion is some way of sticking it to them.

Still going, eh? I engaged in a bit of target shooting on friday, none of it virtual. I suppose that means I participated.
