This, pretty much. In my case, I'm not more than 1/8th
any particular nationality. I identify with particular bits of my parents' culture that was communicated to them by their parents, who filtered their own cultures, etc. etc, going back through 3 generations of multi-ethnic parents. I do own that part of my family's plural heritage that gets communicated down to me, and that's an important part of who I am, even if not
the most important part. Culturally? I'm pretty damn American. But a fair number of Puerto Rican, Polish, German and even Indian bits sneak in there every once in a while, and it'd be foolish not to recognize why they're there.
