It all depends on what I'm making. If its a sandwich then 2nd and 3rd, but it's the first slice for everything else.
Usually second slice. I save the crusts for later meals, where I use it to sop up leftover gravy/sauce on the plate.
The end piece of a loaf of bread is called 'the heel' c'mon people. It's like there isn't a major bread 'factory/bakery' in your towns.
I use the heels when i want a smaller sandwich or something where the contents might gush out of regular bread or if we run out of hot-dog buns.

I go for the first slice. Unlike most people, I don't hate the crust of bread. I have never understood what bothers people about it. I think it is one of the tastiest parts of the loaf. I find it fascinating that people in rich countries have enough money and time to sit down in front of the computer and talk about which slice of bread they take first when they open a pack of bread, when people in poor countries have to work 8 hours to get a piece of bread, if they even get that much... That was Breakfastman's sobering moment of the day!
I'm one of these aliens that believes that bread should just be all crust, seriously slices 1 and 13 are the best imho.
