#1- this site looks like a tabloid to me. a bunch of trolls sitting around making up random shit and blowing out of proportion various news stories. most likely, we would have heard about this in america if it was real.

#2- If you actually enjoy reading about this shit, spending time reading about other peoples traumas rather than doing something productive, you are part of the problem.
#1: If you weren't looking for conversation about a variety of issues, you shouldn't have gone to an ONLINE FORUM. People are going to talk about things that matter to them. the only troll i see here is YOU good sir.
#2: Isn't being aware of problems and discussing them so that we may come to some sort of societal consensus about their merits and relevance, better than not being aware of problems at all? Ignorance is bliss, until you are the one in pain and the rest of the world is looking in the other direction
that is a nice attempt at a dodge, but ultimately a fail. "awareness" of something does not = actually doing good things and focusing on being positive in life. if what you enjoy is reading about peoples misery, then you should consider removing yourself from the gene pool.
And what was i trying to dodge? Awareness is the first step. Many years ago, parents were allowed to do much worse to their children, and there was no social system to stop them. If society had not become aware of the problem, through the discussion of everyday people, things would not have changed. Four or Five decades ago, this incident would not be given the attention it deserves, as it would be considered social acceptable. But due to the reasonable discussion of people through various social mediums, that has changed.
As to your other point, no i do not enjoy other peoples suffering you pretentious twit. What i enjoy is talking about everything and anything under the sun, even topics that make the skin crawl. Why? because they bear discussion if this is to change into a better world for real. If we turn away at everything negative, not only will a lot of people suffer needlessly, but nothing positive will ever really happen. You can focus on the positive all you like, in fact i implore people to do so, but if you refuse to accept that there are things on this planet that bear discussion and action, no matter how unpleasant, then you might as well be living on Mars.
My good Soushi, do not argue with the obvious troll. it means he wins, and we can't have that. Just ignore him, and he'll descend back to his lair of obscurity and fail.

There are all kinds of mad and stupid people in the world. I'd be better off with not knowing such things.

That is fucking cruel; he should be locked up for a good stretch of time in my opinion; a nice LONG, LONG imprisonment.

Woah, wait, what?!? *SIGH*... And here I though humans couldn't get any MORE dispicable...

Sometimes I think that humans are on a basic level good and nice and that in western societies we don't have child-torturing nutcases.

Then cases like these rear their ugly heads and my illusion shatters and my optimism gets thrown out of the airlock, once again.

This is just indescribably horrible and atrocious. I... I can't really say anytihng else. This is just so plain wrong.
(Nods) Yep, that's pretty much how I feel, pal.

Whilst I'm not saying thats a pleasant/right thing to do, I'm also not saying I didn't laugh when I read about it.

I get the impression that man will soon be having a lovely chat with the friendly folks from Child Protection...
Yeah he's not allowed off base to see his child or girlfriend. I think that is for the best.
He is still on a base?

Not in a little room with bars on the windows?
He's in "house arrest" on base pending trial.
I'd hope so, and if you think civilian law is tough on these things, just wait until a military tribunal (I hope) gets up in this, oh man, then he gets to be in a little room with bars in between doing hard labour. That is how US military law works right, because that's how it is in Canada. I'd have to think so, because we're generally more lax than you yanks. Also acceptable: Firing squad.

EDIT: I love how people are blaming his military background for this. Civilians have done things that are way more fucked up than this. There are assholes in every proffession, remember that.

That's not the point. The point is that he was probably a normal person who might not have changed into someone like that if it wasn't for his military service.

I've said it before on other threads about shitty parenting, and I'll say it again:
