you're wrong tho. because i doubt the person expects them to know each grammatical law in the english language, or even every word in the language, all that is needed is enough to form a basic sentence.

dont pretend there is a difference between:

you want order what?

and what would you like to order? in a restaurant, there isnt. but when the person sais "ce ati dori sa ordinati" instead of want order what? then it becomes a problem.
I might be wrong when it's a second, third etc. language someone new to the country has just learned and is still trying to get to grips with it, but when it's your first (like Slasher's), there is no excuse.

If it bothers you, learn Spanish. It's much easier for you yourself to learn a language than to try to teach everybody else.

You're talking about not having Spanish shoved down your throat, but asking for Spanish speakers to have English shoved down theirs.

Don't get me wrong, I think you should at least get a basic understanding of the most used language of whatever country you're moving to, enough to get by, you know?

Quick point. You probably say that English is "fairly simple to understand." It's not really your assumption to make.

On topic: I agree with you. Why would citizens of any country not be able to speak the language? How do you get anywhere at all? Makes no sense whatsoever.
I think hes making the point that if you live in a country you should at least have a basic understanding of the language.

I know, and I agreed with him. I just pointed out that he shouldn't really assume that learning it is easy.

ya as i learned at my only language it seemed fairly easy, but i can see very clearly that it would be hard to learn.
