If you really want it to die why did you post? lol. Oh, and the sheer number of players attest Im not a lone in liking Halo. Seriously, its consistently up near the top on XBOX Live. Makes matchmaking really fluid and sweet.
Because I can hope that this thread will be left in peace, even if deep down I know it will not. I like Halo, I really do: I've got two long pieces floating around on my hard drive passionately extolling it's virtues. However, discussions and arguments about Halo resolve nothing, they never convert one party to the other's way of thinking, it's just flogging and flogging that poor old nag. It's not like we're going to 'resolve the Halo question' by reiterating these points to one another over and over.

Everything that's been said on the third page of this thread has been said on the second page and the first page, and none of us are any the wiser for it. No offense intended to the OP, but these discussions only ever devolve into circular bickering and tautology that has nothing to do with 'user reviews', so I don't see why it should head up the 'user reviews' section ever time I look.

SwiftVengeance1224 Halo changed the face of video games and First Person Shooters on the market today. [/quote said:
The question is, changed Halo the genre for the better or did it made it worse?

Well on one hand Halo did bring more people to console FPS (PC gamers aren't really impressed by Halo as they have better FPS available).
On the other hand the, in my opinion, undeserved hype of Halo means that most companies are now simply copying Halo gameplay for quick cash and more innovative shooters recieve less funding or get canceled.

I see it like Yahtzee. Halo is just average. But because of its commercial success most companies only do average Halo clones instead of innovative games.

Halo is great. It is a great series, but most importantly, it brought First Person Shooters into Mainstream videogame consoles with pitch perfect (kinda) controls that felt as if the controller was a keyboard and mouse. It was the amount of satisfaction, and the experience that made halo popular. Overall, I agree with you, and i think Halo 2 was the innovative point of the games. It brought newer things, but the Assault Rifle absent made it feel a little bit odd. It brought newer things in terms of gameplay, like swords, and dualwielding, as well as online play. halo 3 brought more new things to the table, and its the best game in the series. (P.S. dont run my username by me to tell me im a diehard halo fan. Its a penny arcade joke.)

The reason Halo became so popluar was becasuse there was no good FFS for the console besides mabye GoldenEye for N64. All the "halo haters" had PC's and played games like Half Life, Quake and UnReal tournament to name a few.

For the love of... I forgot just how many people would want to bash the crap out of these games because of what I was reviewing. I'll admit this review wasn't up to snuff, but dear god, people!

I'm really kinda mixed on this review. On one hand, this isn't exactly what I'd call my finest review. In fact, I personally think it's one of my worst. And then there's the aforementined 'Halo = crap onoez!. On the other hand, I kinda sorta helped make a half-decent conversation on the series's virtues and vice.

Now please, I'm begging you people as the author of this horrid thing, can we let this die?

Quake always felt like a weak doom clone to me, I never much liked the manic playstyle of unreal games (I much prefer their Gears of Wars pace), and as for Half-Life, fun game, but the following episodes use exactly the same engine as Half-Life, 2, so they dont exactly add much to the table. Funny how people fault Halo for lacking innovation, yet people like Valve recieve such high praise when they dont even bother to really upgade their tech. 4 year old PC tech from the Halo 2 days!

You could euthanise it. All it would take is a massive quote stack and...some owl pictures.

Desperate times...

Well, we might as well get started.

personally i only dislike halo because of the 3rd game
halo - good singleplayer,shoddy multiplayer
halo2 - boring campaign, fun-ish multiplayer
halo3 - both sucked, also hated the "oh no a character has died" really bad attempts at drama

id say the game is average, nothing special. only thing i thank it for is saving the xbox apparently...somehow

final note: battlefield bad company- hooray a shooter moving away from health recharge

Myself, I like Halo because I don't get to play many FPSes, and anything that has such good graphics, mechanics, and a semi-coherent story gets my thumbs-up. I've realized that when people say "it's been done before" I don't care because I haven't seen anything like it "before". This might be because I have a Wii, and as such, am apparently not allowed to have anything remotely good in the FPS genre to play. I guess if you're starving, anything tastes good. I dunno.

P.S. I agree with Stompy.

Really? Halo 3 was my favorite, largely because of multi-player. Question, what is Battlefield using for health then? I hope its not medkits because I hated bactracking looking for health in older gen games . The recharge mechanic may not be realistic, but at least it keeps the action moving I suppose. Maybe they could employ respawn points like Bioshock does with its chambers?
