There's just a minor thing I've never seen ANYONE, despite whatever criticisms they throw around, mention at all about the Assassin's Creed series, and it's this:

How is a modern-day American man decended from an Italian nobleman, who is himself decended from a Middle Eastern bloke?

The Italian-to-American thing I can understand, but I'm not currently aware off any historical link between Italians and Middle Easterns that would allow a Middle Eastern bloke to have pure-blood Italian ancestors a few generations later.

There probably is an answer to this, but to me right now it seems massively unreal...

Altair's child had another child, whom went overseas or something. The Auditores were descended from some trader folk. sailors, actually.

A lot can happen in 180 years or so, many generations between then, especially if life expectancy wasn't to be counted on

It s quite more than a few generation I think. Besides it does not matter when the blood mixed. Also look at Freddie Mercury. It isn't really obvious that he is Half Parsi. At least I think it is half he is part anyway. There are people who have mixed race parents that come out completely looking like 1 race with few features of the other. So it isn't that unreal now is it? Sure there is only a small chance of it happening but where is your suspension of disbelief. Given life expenctancy was shorter it made generation gaps smaller. While we usually have families between late 20s - early 30s they would of started families about 10 years earlier. Shave 10 years of 3 generation and you could fit another one generation to what is considered one today. Also when you play the game this lineage becomes much clearer.

Well the first one is set in 1191 and the second one is set in the late 14th century and the crusades were between the christians and the muslims (I think)so there would be Italians there and seeing how in 2 we see that
Altair did the horizontal monster mash with a templar
that may be where the shift happened.

Well I'm English, but I have Irish, Scottish, French, Canadian and German ancestry. And they're just the ones I know about. :p

As Hobo Joe said, a lot can happen in 180 years. I wouldn't stress the genetic details too much. ;-)

See I knew there'd be an explanation. But I just couldn't work out how Ezio eventually came from Altairs bloodline.

Also, and this is just me being pedantic now...it kinda bugs me how Altair, Ezio and Desmond all look EXACTLY the same, facial features-wise. I get their all decendants of each other, but it's highly unlikely that 3 guys from one bloodline, especially since all bloodlines get mixed in with everyone else's, would all look visually identical.

and all walk the same way...

Auditore was an assumed name. Ezio's great-great grandfather wasn't a real Italian nobleman; he was using Marco Polo's money to masquerade as such. The bloodline could have come from anywhere before that.

Also, Altair was half-European, so it's not a gigantic stretch to think he could look somewhat like his European descendents.

They don't really. Ezio has superficially different features. But the same bone structure. Keep in mind the game is set in a computer system and it's implied in a few situations that the computer takes shortcuts. I always assumed the exactly alike thing was just an extension of that.

Here's a better question: why can Ezio leap from beam to beam with no regard to momentum throwing him off balance?

It's not that strange, considering the average lifespan of those in the "Middle Ages" to be somewhere around the 30 mark. Considering there are about 400 years between Assassin's Creed I and II I'd wager that there was enough time for Altair's descendants to move to Italy and have enough children to be considered "Pure Italian."

And yes, both of the games take place in the "Middle Ages."

Ezio's shoes and gloves are obviously coated with sticky stuffs to help him climb surfaces and the like.
How else did you think he climbs so well?

Erm, Altair was descended from a middle eastern mother, and Christian father. He then made more descendants with that one female Templar that you spare, and so on and so forth. Also theoretically, you wouldn't need the exact same DNA, as Desmond accessed several different people, and subject 16 also accessed both Ezio and Altair.

Genetics. Welcome to the Human Tumbleweed.

Even if you are an only child (like me) odds are good you have at least SOME relation to somebody living across a large body of water in a small town/country you've never even heard of.
