So I seen this article shared on facebook and it really irritated me. Its basically about a girl who got a boob job free on the NHS and now shes pregnant she wants an abortion so she can appear on a dreadful reality tv program

Im not irritated at the subject matter of the article but how it was reported.

a)This girl has nothing to do with me and her life is completely irrelevant to mine. Why should I care about what she wants to do with her unborn child. Thats for medical and legal experts to decide.

b) this is sensationslist journalism designed to get a reaction. How am I supposed to know that this tabloid hasnt edited the interview and taken it out of context

c) if she is getting an abortion just to be famous then why react to this article and give her the publicity she is craving

Im not condoning what she is doing but I just dont care. Its not my decision if she is allowed an abortion or not. I was just pissed off at all the people who are quick to judge and have fallen for this type of "journalism"

/rant

What do you guys think about this sort of sensationslism in media? Why does the media let their readers condemn these people yet at the same time let their readers give her the attention she desires?

A reality starlet.. yay, because we're sorely lacking in idiots on television, right?

I can understand if she'd want the pregnancy terminated earlier, occupational risk I suppose.. but 4 months in, no.

If she truly wants an abortion for some short-lived fame, lock her up, she's not sound of mind then.

And dear god, what man considers this attractive in any way?

Somebody tell her to quit smoking & drop the tanning bed, she looks ancient compared to her actual age.

Because papers exist to make money. Like click bait articles on the internet, getting people to rage over headlines is a guaranteed way to get the attention the piece of media desires. They don't give a damn about her or the fact she wants attention, they care about the income of profits they will see from getting people worked up.

This is especially true for tabloids.

Call me a sucker then cus I'm more annoyed at the subject matter. I don't think the media had to go to much effort to spin this the way they wanted; if the underlying truth is that she is willing to murder her child for 15 minutes of fame then that is monstrous and it will get a reaction out of me. I pray no doctor will actually do it for her, especially since she's so far into her pregnancy.

The fact that there doesn't seem to be any commenting system on the articles brings up a red flag immediately. That rag will print pretty much anything to make money...they're actually doing Big Brother a favour - nothing gets attention like the sort of behavior that happens on that blight of a programme. It's all outrage and nonsense.

There was a Christmas special episode on Extras, in which the main character, Andy Melman, stars on Celebrity Big Brother in a final desperate bid for fame. This is the scene of his painful revelation in its entirety, but it isn't a YouTube clip so I can't shorten it down to the relevant part:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3untr_extras-celebrity-big-brother_fun

The person watching the television at home is his colleague, one of Melman's best friends throughout his difficult uphill struggle as an extra and actor.

Gotta admit, I find her attractive. And not only because I've been involuntarily celibate for about three years.

I can see why people are annoyed and I was a little bit but I was more annoyed about the fact that they are giving her the 15 mins of fame she desires. I was annoyed about the constant reposts with the same generic responses instead of just ignoring it and not giving her the time of day

The thing is I dont know if the media has put a spin on it or if she is just saying this stuff to get in the paper or if she is being sincere. Shes not a celebrity shes just some chav who is only famous because she got a boob job on the nation health service so I dont see why people are encouraging her

Off topic: I also like how it says "will you boycott big brother if she appears on it". I boycott big brother every year because its fucking dreadful. The minute I stop boycotting it is when they introduce an angry grizzly bear as a house mate

Nailed it, /thread.

Seriously though, as far as those involved are concerned, this is a win-win. She gets to sell her story, the Mirror gets clickbait, views and money, and even Big Brother gets a nice bit of free advertising and controversy (which is what the whole show thrives on) thrown into the mix. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was planned for that reason, like a more extreme version of all those celebrity weight gain/loss stories. Bonus points if she has a sudden change of heart at the eleventh hour.

Same here. I'm the first to admit that I have a bit of a trashy tv addiction, but Big Brother is too far even for me. I watched it a couple of times as a teenager to see what all the fuss was about, but it was so godawful I don't think I ever managed to stomach a whole episode. I repeat, this is coming from someone who actually enjoys the Jeremy Kyle Show :p

I couldnt put it better myself. The only people who lose out are you and me the joe and josephine public who have to put up with this shit. However we perpetuate this as a society because we buy the papers, we share the articles (of which I suppose im guilty) and we (not myself but enough of of so its relevant) still watch big brother. We need to learn to ignore this stuff (I know im sounding hypocritical but thats the reason I posted) or the trend will just carry on

I agree it does seem very orchastrated as if the mirror and channel 5 have put her up to it. She'll have a sudden change of heart and the mirror will have exclusive rights to said change of heart

OR

They will get this guy to do the abortion and knowing channel 5 they will have exclusive filming rights to the back street abortion

What do i think? I think it works. The fact that you made a thread about this proves that. Oh the irony.

Everyone enjoys jeremy kyle. You can guarantee at 10 o'clock every day in every tea bar in every military base there will be 100+ guys crowded around a little screen with a crude homemade antennae hurling abuse at the TV as the lie detector results are read out. I also like take me out and watch it with my housemates shouting at the screen "pick her, she'll deffo put out" but I still wouldnt watch big brother thats how dreadful it is

Alright yeah, I can see your point. I'd hope she can tell the difference between fame and infamy but considering she seemed to be more than fine with the infamy caused by the NHS boob job, I doubt that's the case. In that case, I hope she is placed under surveillance until she has the child so it can be taken away from her cus she'd clearly be a shitty parent.

It's kinda like when a mass shooting happens and the media sensationalize it by repeatedly naming the shooter, nicknaming him/her and repeatedly declaring how many died & were injured. All of that shit fuels the likelihood that it'll happen again; the ideal reaction from them would be to only report on the victims and not even name the shooter but that's just not good enough when they could milk it for all it's worth.

OT: An angry grizzly bear as a Big Brother house mate would be f*cking fantastic :D

To be fair I usually use the BBC news website or the independent or guardian. Not that im in anyway posh its just that I think the independent and guardian tend to be much more objective and more factual

The only reason I made this thread wad because I was fed up with the generic reactionary reposts on facebook

You are a braver man than me, I've been involuntarily celibate for about 7 years and I wouldn't touch her if I was wearing a disaster suit.
