Oh God, I could write a novel about parents (and siblings) and computers.
Clicking the links twice must be some sort of an impulse for people. My parents are also completely unable to comprehend the tab feature. They always open everything in a new window or everything in the same window, so they eventually have to rape the back button in order to get back to Google.Of course, the get lost somehow and then they close the window and re-open the browser in order to reach Google again. Home button seems to be nuclear physics to them too.
I especially love when my mother panics while using the Internet. She sometimes gets to web pages that she never visited before, and she instantly panics like a caveman that left the safety of his cave and found himself surrounded by wolves in a dark forest. Of course, that results in closing the browser and re-opening it in order to get back to the safety of the cav-... I mean Google. I think people are really afraid of the Internet, like there is something that will attack them or something will happen and they won't know what to do next (also, a bomb timer will appear on the monitor and they'll have five seconds to come up with a solution -.-).
I also enjoy when both my mother and my father bring their mobile phones to me and tell me to transfer all of their pictures to the computer. Of course, that involves my laptop, usb sticks and half an hour work to get the pictures of my mom's flowers or dad's cars to the computer, but they decide to stand behind my back the whole time as if it will be over in a minute.
One more thing comes to my mind; when my parents click everything a few times and expect for the page to load in a second. When it doesn't (because they opened 10 windows with web pages with hundreds of cat pictures that need to load), they start panicking and demanding an explanation as to why is the computer so slow and they immediately suspect it's broken. And when I tell them to wait a little bit, they attack ME with things like "We will not wait for this THING!", "This advanced technology should be faster!" or "I don't have time to wait for a mere computer, it should wait for me!". Around that time, I leave and let them direct their anger to the "thing".
Sadly, it's not reserved only for parents. I've met younger people that are completely inept at using computers. And it's not like they should all sit in front of computers all day long, but some basic tasks should be learned if they want to get a job one day that doesn't involve brooms and endless dirty streets of the city. I mean, how can you even attend college and not know how to type with all of your fingers?
