Judas Priest's cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Green Manalishi with the two pronged crown holds the title of best cover ever. By FAR.

I prefer their version too, I like the heavier feel.

Im going to go with In this moment's cover of Call Me by Blondie I think is insanely good cover of the original.

No Woman No Cry - Xavier Rudd (originally by Bob Marley)

possible flames, but I stand by this man. He is awesome.

And What a Wonderful World - The Flaming Lips awesome take on it.

And pretty much any cover Ween decides to do at one of their shows. But, that's just me.

Ooo, and Black Star's cover of Children's Story by Slick Rick. Simply amazing.

To me Stone Sour's version of Wicked Game (Original by Chris Isaak)took what was good about the original and just enhanced it perfectly.
I SERIOUSLY second this, it's a fucking masterpiece. That and Tiamat's Sympathy For The Devil (The Stones), Rammstein's Stripped (Depeche Mode), and Deathstars' White Wedding (Billy Idol), Plus every cover Marilyn Manson's ever done.

Dropkick Murphys cover of Green Fields of France.
It's odd to see a sad song like that pulled off so well by a punk band.

as previously mentioned, System of a Down's Metro and various stuff covered by Johnny Cash. Also,
anything by The Ramones covered by Screeching Weasel,
Fallout Boy's "Sugar We're Going Down" covered by Anti-M,
Sabbath's "War Pigs" covered by Cake,
The Cure's "Love Song" and Ozzy's "Diary of a Madman" covered and mashed together by A Perfect Circle,
Captain Beefheart's "Party of Special Things to Do" and Dolly Parton's "Jolene" covered by The White Stripes,
and that's all I can think of right now.

I've got one! Careless Whisper, originally an 80s dance/pop song by the vocalist from Wham!, was covered by Seether as a joke when their label asked them to make a song for Valentine's Day (they of course reworked it into a hard rock song). Their version was a lot better (enough to end up on a "list of 5 best covers of all time" some publication had).

I think CAKE did this song much better than Gloria Gaynor did...

But it depends.... There are many good covers and many horrible covers...

Any cover Type O Negative has done is better then the original. I know it doesn't take too much to out do The Doors, but they do some pretty impressive stuff with Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix songs.

Reel Big Fishs cover of Take on Me. I listened to that Northern Kings one, nooo not for me.

Also Napalm Death's cover of Nazi Punks Fuck Off and the Mad Capsule Markets cover of Wardance.

Disagree with the first part, thought it was a horrible cover. The other 3, certainly.

I loved Turisas' version of Rasputin far more than the original, also prefer Motley Crue's version of Anarchy in the UK.
