I normally don't listen to popular music, but I really like the song "Give It All" by Rise Against.

Damien Marley is mine, because Reggaeton is usually not my favorite genre. Especially his songs In Too Deep and Hey Girl

There's a swedish rapper named Timbuktu whom (that's 'whom' right? Never get the hang of it :-/) I always use as the exception for the HipHop/rap genre.

Not many artist in the modern pop genre that I like either, Mika is the most notable exception.

If you dislike the genre how can you like one of their songs?

Unless you dislike the image that goes with the Genre.
A genre is a style of Music.
Wow, really? You don't get it? The question is really simple and straightforward. In a genre you don't normally enjoy, and sometimes despise, what is one song you find yourself surprised to actually enjoy.

Take mine for example. I usually hate pop-music, but I actually really like JoJo's singing voice, and for pop music some of her songs have a good R&B feel to them. Not the best music, but I still find it enjoyable, which surprises me because I usually hate the genre of music her music would be lumped into.
Hip hop is a genre that is based heavily on beat formations with basse influences and quick melodies that are generally preformed by a vocalist.
I like hip hop as a genre, but I dislike most of the contributing artsists songs because of the message they are preaching.

What I'm trying to get at is if you like a song that holds thees MUSICAL charachteristic, then
you like the genre- you just don't like the majority of what people preech

I love all the great songs- regardless of genre.
So you would say that a genre isn't made up of the people who contribute to it, rather the basic characteristics of that genre. So really, even though you understand what the OP is asking, you have a problem with the way the question was worded?

(Just thought, is it possible that someone could like a song because it is catchy, not due to the musical characteristics, but rather because of the catchy lyrics?)

Edit: realize I should probably answer the OP. I don't care for most rap artists, however every time I hear "Changes" I fall in love with 2pac...'s music.

Argh people who don't like hip hop but like Eminem.

Anyway, I hate Happy Hardcore but Scott Brown has some awesome tunes.

"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day. I just don't like punk rock, to soft for me, but something makes me love that song.

Tied with...

"Stronger" by Kanye West. I don't care for rap or hip-hop, or anything, it may just be because it has Daft Punk mixed in it.

I'll admit that britney spears song with austin powers in was pretty cool then again maybe it was the n.e.r.d production.
I'd say that it's because it has something to do with Austin Powers which automatically makes it awesome.
Indeed!

Not really a genre, but I have never listened to any foreign language music. I did like Movits though, after they were featured on Stephen Colbert.

This is the full episode of the Colbert Report, go to 17:30 if you just wanna see Movits' performance.

Most anything from Johnny Cash for country.
Dethklok (kinda) for screamo-metal (I still need closed captioning on).

If you think that Green Day is punk then allow me to introduce you to a very popular heavy metal singer: Britney Spears.

If I don't like a genre then I generally avoid anything in it, but sometimes a band will come from a genre I generally hate and get my hopes up before they become corporate whores. I guess the best I can really come up with is "View From Heaven" by Yellowcard.

Well maybe it isn't punk rock, but in general I don't like that type of music.
