When I first heard "Dark Side of The Moon" by Pink Floyd, I decided I liked music.

When I first heard "2112" by Rush, I decided I wanted to play the guitar.

When I first heard "Deadwing" by Porcupine Tree, I figured out what kind of music I wanted to make.

If it isn't obvious already, I'm really into Prog.

I've always loved music.

Its always been a very large part of my life.

No specific moment got me any more into it than I am today.

When I was 10 and watching Die Another Day.
"London Calling" by The Clash was playing over part of the film (Bond flying over London).
and thus, my love for *real* music was born. Before then, I was usually listening to traditional kiddies pop music /shudder/.

I started off by loving rap (well, more Eminem than rap). After a few years I started hanging out with this tool of a human being, who happened to listen to (in the softest form of the genre) metal. He influenced me and, even after I cut my ties with such people, my love for metal has grown.

I was exposed to a lot of music when I was a kid, with I was still in the single digit ages. Mostly it was The Beatles and classic rock like Eagles, Styx, etc. The song I most fell in love with was "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles and it's been my favourite of there's ever since.

Never REALLY got into music until I first heard Iron Maiden. Now I listen to a very broad selection of music.

The first time was when I was about 11 - 12 when I just randomly put on this show called "Hard Rock Video," while flipping through channels; Guns N' Roses came on, and apparently it was "Guns N' Roses Day" on the show.
I sat there watching through Gn'R videos for an hour and I just started to like it, then a second hour came on and I saw Andrew W.K. who was actually pretty fun to listen to back then, so I bought his album.

Long story short, I liked the drummer so much that I looked him up online and it turns out that he's in Obituary! I bought an Obituary album and there started my love of Death Metal (and other metal).

Nirvana, Weezer, and pre-American Idiot Green Day got me through the 90's.
Oasis' "Wonderwall" was good for chilling out (and I still remember ice skating in Cupertino to that...)
From there I became a fan of old-school rap (Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Notorious B.I.G., early Eminem, Coolio)
DJ Sammy's "Heaven" got me into trance and techno.
I'm a fan of Bloodhound Gang (I'd seen Fire Water Burn on MTV but didn't know what it was until a few years ago.)
From there, I played 7 years' worth of DDR and got into dance and Eurobeat.
Initial D furthered the Eurobeat and introduced me to parapara.
I discovered Scooter about 5 years ago. Love 'em. It's what introduced me to something called jumpstyle.

So yeah, I have a very diverse music taste. The latest rap I dislike, emo pisses me off, and modern Green Day can chew on the fattest part of my ass (except for Wake Me Up When September Ends, but only because I'm way past high school and these young kids home for the summer piss me off, therefore I can't wait for them to go back, therefore wake me up when September ends.) Everything else I'll give a chance.

I didn't really start to love music until i started learning the guitar at age 15. From then my tutor introduced me to new things and i started taking it all seriously.

I was into music beforehand, but that birthed my true love for music.

Not sure what got me listening to music in general, but my Nu Metal/Metal/Rock enthusiasm spans from WWE, when the Undertaker came out to Limp Bizkit (Rollin') and Stone Cold cam out to Disturbed (Glass Shatters) I was hooked on a new genre and it's just developed from there.

I don't remember, my dad made sure I listened to ddecent music from birth. Although I think I strayed when I got into heavier stuff, but that wasn't really an event, that was more gradual.

I would say the first time I heard Reel Big Fish, I've loved ska ever since. Oh, and the other day when I went to see Mastodon, that didn't really birth my love of Mastodon, but it was one hell of an experience.

I'll be in the crowd if you ain't controllin' it,
drop the mic, you shouldn't be holdin' it.
My style is identical to none,
This is how it should be done.

Is my favorite song of all time. First hip-hop song I ever heard that turned me onto the genre for life.

Most of you probably aren't old enough to even know this song but it was the first one which hooked me :)

I've always loved music, my dad would put on records all the time(Van Halen, Bowie, etc.) My older brother gave me a cassette of Insomniac(by Greenday)when I was about 9, then I simultaneously discovered Led Zeppelin and Nirvana in my early teens, and decided that I had to play guitar...best thing I ever did.

"Ever since I was a young boy,
I played that silver ball.
From Soho down to Brighton,
I must've played 'em all.
I ain't seen nothin' like it,
In any amusement hall.

That deaf, dumb, blind kid,
Sure plays a mean pinball."

And the rest of that song too.

(Deja vu?)
Goddamn, now its stuck in my head >.>

My love for music didn't really kick in till I was about 12 when I heard 'In the shadows' by the Rasmus and then 'In the End' by Linkin Park.

Tell us what your song started your love for music or perhaps an event!
You know, oddly enough my love for music started with those exact same bands.

I was born to music (Born to Run) and I'll most likely die listening to music (hopefully something fun), but it was only at around 14 I really started to listen and love it. Since then, I've discovered the wonders of Pirate Metal, Punk Cabaret, Classical and good ol' school American Rock (circa 1970)

In grade school my emmense hate of rap music being played at all the school dances led me to find something better.
