I think a fairly simple question, what songs define their respective genre? Just for an example, something like Metallica's Master of Puppets or ...And Justice For All defines the rock and/or metal genre.

Also please respect each others thoughts. I know this sounds silly posting something like that on The Escapist, but I just wanted to put it out there.

I personally think that The Eagles "Hotel California" defines Rock and Roll from the seventies. If anyone has other ideas feel free to post.

Eminem - Beautiful

That is, and will always be, what hip-hop should be. It's perfect. Gtfo if you don't think so.

Burning Ring of Fire for Country-Western. (shit was SO Johnny Cash)
Fucking A. I loves me some Johnny Cash. Although, that song is just called Ring of Fire, FYI :p

Cry of the Black Birds by Amon Amarth is a good representation of the Melodic Death metal genre :D

Gates of The West by The Clash really defines punk for me, and punk when it was a fresh movement, that wasn't constricted by a specific sound, and didn't have to be so dour.

Crass basically killed that. I hate Crass.

PS. you know, it's really hard to choose one song that really defines punk for me, the genre was originally ALL OVER THE PLACE in terms of sound. Much more a general artistic movement then a specific sound.

So I'll list Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones as well cuz it really captures what would eventually be considered the punk sound, which is essentially 50s rock and roll on adderall and speed.

And also Oh Bondage Up Yours by X-Ray Spex. It really captures how fun and wieeerd the original punk movement could be. Fun stuff indeed.

Partly because I don't think anyone will be able to argue otherwise, but also because I love the band;

Suliman by Infected Mushroom.

It typifies modern psychadelic trance for me.

for EBM i'd have to say <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPpUFBVSyWs>Headhunter - Front 242 the song is over 20 years old and still fairly modern sounding

for Industrial Worlock - Skinny Puppy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukhpbcZy0wM] the video is a bit grotesque, just a warning
