"You gonna put me in jail? Man....I'm already in jail...Don't you know that my life is just one big cell."

The ultimate teenage angst anthem

The theme of Hitman Silent Assassin.
It is an awesome and epic build up.

And the intro to CoB: Children of Decadence is just plain awesome. The rest is rather bad however imo.

I would like to say in before Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria.

Both Gravemakers & Gunslingers and In Keeping Secrets of the Silent Earth: 3 have much better intros and are much better songs in general.
i totally agree with this. especially the "welcome home" bit.

The beginning is like that scene from any given action movie in which person/ people A is trying to get through a door. The camera shows what's on the other side: either a bomb seconds away from detonation or person B wielding a weapon larger than a pro (American) football player's arm

I love the beginning to Planet Hell by Nightwish. For some reason I always think of Vikings pillaging when that song plays.

So you agree that Welcome Home is overrated and in no way even close to one of Coheed's best songs?

I tend to listen to a lot of songs that are quite long, and the intro lasts a good few minutes of building tension. If you are into fast metal, then this probably isn't for you. Most of these songs require some patience.

From The Mars Volta, who, being progressive rock, start a lot of songs with a massive intro. These build up mostly to the last minute or two into a burst of amazing:

Son et Lumiere/Inertiatic ESP:

Since We've Been Wrong:

Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore:

Vicarious Atonement

From Pink Floyd, but of course. Almost every song has an awesome intro, so I'll just grab a few. I'll never understand people who can't appreciate this band:

Speak to Me/Breathe

Atom Heart Mother (Part 1)

Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Live... Seriously these guys are fucking amazing.

Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1,2 and 3)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGvkebKlM_4

Archive; you will need to be prepared to listen to up to 10 minutes of building introduction before a word is uttered:
Again (Part 1, normally it is just one long song), Live. Intro till about 5:55.

Lights (Part 1)

I have more but this is really time consuming to do, and I think only one or two people will even check the links.

Also it's This War Is Ours.
i know lol i forgot my "s", my mistake

OT: another one could be Layla by Eric Clapton, instantly recognizable and beautifly simplistic

Just to note - I am not saying it is bad.

i do think the song is overrated, but i haven't heard enough C & C to declare it totally awful. of the 5 or 6 i've heard, though, it's my least favorite.

bitchin' intro, though. just goes to show that just because something starts out good doesn't guarantee that it will stay good.
