Well, I'm about as far from a pop fan as you can kind of get, but my mother listens to quite a lot on her CD player and there's this one song that pops up now and again that I kind of dig, mostly for its beat and slow, dark atmosphere (hey, it sounds dark-ish until you learn the lyrics, okay?)
After searching for the words spoken during the chorus, I have since learned it's by someone called Beyonce. This one video here has over a million views, so I'm guessing she's one of the more popular pop singers? Fuck I dunno, but I just like this song for some reason. I guess I kind of see it as a pop song with a heavy metal attitude - slow, methodical pace. A heavy beat with a somewhat dark vibe. Some unusual vocals (or at least, vocals I've not heard in any other pop song) that change between some kind of chanting and a pretty ominous sounding crawl in the chorus. Perhaps it could be called
doom pop? Of course, it
is pop, after all, so the lyrics are lame as hell, but I've always been someone who can overlook bad lyrics if the music and/or songwriting is good.
I dunno, I just dig it for some reason. As you can probably tell from my utterly abysmal attempts at explaining why I like it, I'm the most unknowledgeable guy on pop music, ever.
