The movie is almost certainly going to hurt the Sonic brand. I doubt it's going to hurt Sega's brand, because Sega's level of brand power has waxed and waned over time. If the Sonic movie flops, I doubt Sega will do a Nintendo and shut the doors on its other IPs.
The thing stopping a Streets of Rage movie is that SoR is a niche IP that hasn't had an entry since the 90s, and I doubt SoR 4 is going to suddenly ignite the IP.
A Streets of Rage movie would only work if it was a period piece. It has to take place in the 1980s.CoCage said:

I'm not a Mario fan, but I can't deny that Nintendo has handled him (and its other IPs) with far more care than Sega has for Sonic. Ever since Sonic Heroes, Sonic's been an uneven brand, and has never really found his footing for any length of time. While I haven't played a mainline Mario game since Sunshine, every indication is that the games remain solid, and ergo, the brand is as well.
