Yout hink the price of michael jacksons shit didnt go up when he died? Everyone does this when a celebrity like this dies. Sonys making some money cause her name is famous and relevant now. I'd do the same, or I'd lower the price so I'd get more sales from people looking for discount and wanting to buy in bulk for money.

Sony doing something to make money that is generally immoral...NO!! The mere thought. They've never done that before.

Seriously though, Sony is one of the worst companies out there. They will do anything to make money, which makes no sense because they make more than enough money.

One rule of Capitalism on the other hand is that there is never enough money. On the other other hand I'd say their business model is more on the side of Mercantilism. Let's hope they don't establish colonies.

I fail to see how this is a big deal seeing as this happens all the time when an artist dies. Don't tell me MJ's music didn't go up in price or that they make compilations CDs just to make a profit off of his death.

Yeah it's sad, but nothing to make me want to carry pitchforks over to Sony.

While I can't help but be repulsed at face value, I wonder whether this is strictly sony's greed or a result of warehouses being stressed for product they don't have. this is a good application of a golden rule of capitalism:

low supply + sudden increased demand = higher prices

Increased bandwidth use=increased overhead? Bandwidth isn't free.

I'd hope that's the reason.

Really though, her music wasn't that good. I like how now that she's dead all these "fans" are coming out of the woodwork. Really?

Cocaine is a hell of a drug apparently. At lease bobby didn't kill her.

This. If you psychoanalyzed a corporation (as they are legally people - with the same rights) you would see very quickly how dysfunctional and destructive a person the corporation are.

I don't get why people are so appalled by this, it's sort of standard operating procedure when a celebrity dies. And it has been for quite a long time, now. My brother worked at a baseball card shop for several years, and whenever a major sports mogul passed away the owner of the store would immediately take down everything featuring that person and either reprice it or set it aside for himself. He'd go in early or after hours to do it if necessary.

Yes it does seem a bit callous, but that's how retail and capitalism work. Supply and demand--and there are few things that cause more demand than the sudden death of a celebrity.

It's a dick move, but it's what corporations do. It's pretty skeevy to capitalize off Whitney's death, but profiting from her music is what they're there for.

Isn't Sony Japanese? I am pretty sure they didn't know who she was before this happened. All they see is a way to get more money. Is it kinda douchy? Yes. Does it make sense why they did it? Yes, MO MONEY!

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, any artist who dies their works go up drastically. You think when Stan Lee goes there won't be big books of Stan Lee's works being sold by MARVEL?
Dick move yeah sure but it's what these companies do.

Sony's a gigantic multinational corporation. Of course they know who the most successful female recording artist of all time is. They sold her albums. Millions of them.

I not entirely surprised. I also won't be surprised when they quickly release a super special greatest hits collection in short order.
