Sony Slams Wii, 360 For Offering Less Value Than PS3

My hope is that the PS3 and the 360 remain healthy and in competition for this entire generation. It reminds me of the days of the Genesis/SNES.

I like both systems, for me the 360's library kind of beats the shit out of the PS3 library, but the PS3 still does have quite a few games I'm digging. Such as Valkyria Chronicles, Warhawk, and Killzone 2 might be a pickup for me. That's not even counting certain games that I simply haven't had the chance to experience such as Uncharted and Resistance 2 (which I've heard is a lot of fun).

For those who think I might be ignoring the wii, I love my wii too. For all of the crap that the system gets, I've gotten more good software out of it than I have my PS3, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Dungeon, Mario Kart, all "real" games (whatever that means).

Does anybody really want the competition to flop? Really? That wouldn't help us at all. I mean, I get where that mentality comes from. When I was younger I tended to have only one system per generation, which led me to (naturally) hope that my system was the successful system. For instance, when the Saturn tanked I suddenly didn't have to look at those few (but great) exclusives that I wasn't getting. But in the end, a healthy competition in the hardware race is good for us.

Why did you revive this thread again? This is OOLLLD news. Sony knows they have to step up, and that's why they have alot of games.

Hmmm, Yes Sony has some things going for it, unfortunately removing the 80GB from the selection for almost 2 years and then bringing it back after everyone bought the 40GB is just an insult, now I have to go out buy an external backup device, as well as buy an HDD of a decent size (I was thinking about the 150-250GB range)to replace the miniscule HDD.

They are talking about price cuts, but it's too little too late I think. It's taken two publishers threatening to drop support and a couple of media providers verbally slamming the console, to make Sony get off their arse and do something about it.

They're saying that the PS3 is better because it's features can't be had on the Wii? That's like saying a car isn't as good as a tank because it can't hold a turret, they're designed and built for different purposes.

On the other hand, what else is Sony supposed to do? Try to sell the PS3 at even *more* of a loss? With games out for it now, they're committed to both the Blu-Ray format and the Cell processor, which is where the large chunk of their expenses come from. Their attach rate simply isn't strong enough to support a deeper loss on the console, and the longer development times for the Cell processor means that isn't going to start to skyrocket any time soon, especially with the massive install base of the Wii attracting the developers' attentions right now.

Sony took a big gamble and tried essentially to skip a generation of consoles. In one sense, it paid off in that HD-DVD is now dead, and Blu-Ray has emerged as the winner. Unfortunately, with the shift in the economic climate, it may be a case of winning the battle while losing the war.
All very true, especially the bold bits.
