If they do this I won't be buying any of their products, and neither will anyone else with a brain.

Sucks to be them, then.

It's just a number. Have a think about it for a moment. The fact of using a DNA sequence, fingerprint, or retina scan for the basis of this number doesn't miraculously give Sony or whoever omniscience over the state of your console. It's a number. It's a password. Sony sends you a message saying "password please" and your console sends a message back saying "here it is". The input device being a needle or fingerprint scan rather than a keypad makes not a single bit of difference to the security of the system.

Banks could eventually attach fingerprint or retina scans to ATMs; that is because they are public devices that are difficult to tamper with. But putting such a measure on the remote access of your account from a computer in your home would be pointless. It's a number. It's no different from having to input a long password by pressing buttons on your keyboard.

This is no more than an input device. It doesn't do anything. Furthermore, it's bloody expensive. Don't worry, it's not going to happen.

Captcha: "rhyme nor reason". Quite.

Do that and we may see our DNA being sold illegally making matter much, MUCH worse. Now they got your hard-copy info and it cannot be changed like a security code can be. Once it's gone, it's gone.

That kind of makes me see having a password being the better alternative then this despite convenience.

So your saying that if I wanted to play a second hand game I would have to find the previous owner and take his skin? I can dig it...

I'm just waiting till we reach the point when these companies finally realize that they're wasting far more money developing these DRM schemes (money that could be better spent making good games), than they're losing to piracy.

I am sorry, but How are they going to get your dna material to sell?

You expecting cloning facilities?
lol I completely overlooked that part. The idea just jumped out at me.

Once human cloning happens Sony is screwed on this, or just if people swap "samples" to be able to play games. In fact if the game is used then some traces of previous owner DNA may still be found on the disk or case making very easy to crack if you have any swabs available.

I don't see this actually happening it sounds like it would be expensive to have a console that could recognise users DNA.

Patent != implementation. It just means that if they want to implement it, they can do so with impunity. Or, if someone else wants to, they can patent troll and get paid, a bit like Apple.

They are obviously misunderstood good guys! They are patenting it so nobody can use it on the future!

I love this idea. I can now steal samples of other peoples DNA and use it to play their games :)

I posted this on facebook in a private gaming group but it seems appropriate to post it here too!

"THIS... IS... FUCKING... BULLSHIT! This is BEYOND outrageous!! These goddamn multi-national corporations know no bounds!!! When will it be enough? Once you have acquired all your competitors, crushed all your opposition, climbed to the top of the stock market, gained complete market share, acquired ridiculous amounts of money, perpetuated constant and complete control over your customers, dictate where, when and how they use "your" content. How far down that road do you need to go to see where it ends?

This is the kind of tech that offers a level of control that people at EA only have wet dreams about! I'm looking at YOU John Riccitiello... (CEO of EA). Pissed off Hawkeye... is so far BEYOND pissed off it's not healthy. And that, you various multi-national corporations is NOT an easy thing to do!

P.S. GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!!

"The Truth... the truth will set you free, but first it'll piss you off"

I don't rage much but when I do I rage about multi-national corporations fucking up the world! You stay classy Escapist!!!

Just got a mental picture of a 'deposit sample' tray built into the PS4.

I think I need to shower...
Worst part is you may need to give multiple samples

"...And now for your stool sample, [insert name here]"

Of course, somebody who doesn't know what a stool sample with will end up just cutting up a chair.

Actually that just gave me a great idea for protest, we should send them our stool samples!

And then they sell it to insurance agencies, who put up your premium by 100% because you have a 20% higher disposition to cancer than the average man? Am I getting it right?
You do know that Sony is a life insurance agency called Sony Life Insurance Co, Ltd or just Sony Life for short
