i'll buy it. simply because i'm a sony fanboy :p and i'm fine with losing physical components. only way we can beat that california law is to just switch to downloading games off internet stores.
It wouldn't surprise me if they put laws on those somehow as well.
Not to mention that Sony could make the downloads only last a certain amount of time and kill it making you have to buy it.
They may even have to do that with the pirating issues that the PsP has had in the past.
i don't see how they can put a law on internet stores. even if they do, how would they track it down if you were? everyone lies about their age on the internet, including myself, so i can easily get an m game off steam even though legally i'm not supposed to. unless they start monitoring computer activities 24/7 and who's on and having to break the 3rd(or is it 4th?) amendment a dozen times over just to be able to even catch one kid getting a game he isn't allowed to get.
i didn't know they had piracy issues with that. huh, well, that could put a damper on this, but with them eliminating umds downloads are all they have to run with anyway.

I'm hoping this might connect to those 1tb flash cards we've been seeing as well. Do that, then bring on the age of digital distribution. Do it, Sony, take that chance.

This makes me sad. Sony makes excellent consoles and games, but stuff like this will spike the prices a sh!tload. I'm all for new tech, but there is a line. I will have my final word when it is finally released.

I'm calling BS on this, even then if the PSP2 does have 3.2GHz equivalent CPU clock speed it would lack the portability factor in which case it might as well be the PS4

If it has more power than the 360, it has more power than a PS2. If it has more power than a PS2, it can run PS2 games. If it can run PS2 games, I will buy it in a second.

PsP doesn't matter the Nintendo always beats it in game selection and quality games with handhelds.
Plus the great backward capability they always have is great.
The 3ds will be cheaper as well so I don't even see the point of PsP2.
If Microsoft tries I will laugh though.

that is all opinion. just like how I feel that Nintendo's game selection on the DS is for 12 year olds.

to each his own.
You have a rather slim view on the DS it seems.
*inserts GBA game in DS and plays*
trys to insert a GBC game and breaks it......O-O
Actually I have tried it the GB works they just made the plastic slot to small for the cartridge to fit in so you can't play it.

There's a finite number of gadgets consumers want to carry around in their pocket.

That number is one.

The iPhone proved that phones were a good platform for casual gaming, so hopefully the PSP2 can prove their worth with more hardcore games. As someone in the market for an iPhone replacement, I would love it to be a decent gaming platform and am eying the PSP2 with a certain amount of interest.

As for Nintendo's handheld devices. I've never owned one and I've never been slightly tempted to own one. Had they added phone capability, then I would have given them very serious thought... but since they've decided that this is not the future, I can only come to the conclusion that Nintendo is not the future for me.

RAM capacity is not that same as horsepower. From what I can tell, they gave no details on the CPU or GPU, but just said that the RAM will be high, which is good but it doesn't necessarily mean that the graphics will be comparable to the 360.

It's a phone too?

Can anyone say N-Gage?
This is talking about the PSP2, not the PSPhone. There is no evidence to suggest that they are the same system and the PSP2 would likely not double as a phone...maybe enhanced skype capabilities and some sort of online chat at best.

Doesn't matter if it has a crap game selection.

Now if they had CoD for it... Well, you may as well get every 13 year old kid in the country a heroin addiction.

So..why is phone capability so great anyway?
If I wanted a phone I would have bought or had one already.

I honestly didn't even like that the newer DS had a camera.
I would rather keep things pure so they can just make the games and handheld's power the best they can.(excluding backwards capability)

The article talks of both. Second paragraph starts off by saying it could be a serious threat to the Apple iOS platform... and that's sound like phone talk to me.

Non-phone PSP2... no real threat to Apple or Nintendo. But if they plan on attaching it to a phone, that could be ten kinds of awesome that could blow Apple and Nintendo out the water if they manage to hit the target.

Well. Considering the PSP2's screen may just barely reach 720p, and considering the lower screen size will make 720p appear sharp as aught, and perhaps eliminate the need for AA solutions... I'm guessing that with such a portable platform game developers could make graphics that exceed current-generation consoles by a factor of 1.5 to 2. Lookin' forward to Monster Hunter Portable 4th...

I don't see it happening. I really doubt they'd add phone features into the system, at best they are as you said, talking about both. It could still be a "threat" to apple by simply being a superior gaming system than it because Sony knows better than to bother topping the Big N; Nintendo is king of portable gaming and it will very well stay that way unless they royally fuck up. Being 2nd place and still surviving is good enough.

Seriously, putting phone capabilities into it is just wasted resources because the damn thing should focus on GAMING, and GAMES, and not bother with this phone nonsense. Hell they were probably meaning the PSPhone being a threat to IOS and all that, instead of the PSP2 which I'm sure would be a more pure gaming device.

I really hate this inclination that ever fucking portable device under the sun has to be an everything; has to have phone features or mp3 built in. That shit should stay away from the true gaming devices, and even Nintendo knows that. I want Sony to succeed with their PSP2 (whenever that decides show up), but I grow more cynical of it the more it is implied to be an everything.

Good to see it will continue the PSP tradition of having a crappy button/stick layout. Will also probably continue the tradition of having games I don't give a poop about. add to that the inability to use UMDs (used game market? you so silly!) and this is just 110% not for me.

How am I not surprised? Makes no difference to me, I was always going to get it. I've always liked the games for Sony's device. Bloody handhelds, enticing me to buy them. Looks like I'll have both of them this time, seeing as the 3DS looks awesome too. =D
