Pfft, how can you all vote for Half-Life 2 alone???

The Orange Box gets my vote. Half-Life 2 and add-ons, Portal and Team Fortress 2.
Can't get much better than that.

Left 4 Dead.
Seconded.

Most innovative FPS of its generation and FPS are the blockbusters of gaming.
BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!! I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that, that just too funny to take seriously.

As for the topic at hand I really don't think there is one "greatest" game of this gen, it would be more appropriate to split it into separate genres.
Go on then, name another. Of this generation. Halo 3? Remaking the same game for the third time? Bioshock? Taking a giant leap backwards in terms of FPS-RPGs? Crysis? This generation's Michael Bay film? Resistance 2? You're joking. Gears 2? Not an FPS. CoD4? Great but not exactly innovative.

Or perhaps you were sneering at FPSs being the blockbusters of the gaming world. I fail to see how you could take issue with that.

You fit Optimus Prime and Light Sabers in there and you would have the greatest thing ever made.
Brawl already has lightsabers though...they're just under a different name to avoid copyright infringements.
Ah crap I forgot 'bout the Beam Sword.
Uuummm.....Pirates. Don't think it had pirates. That'd be good to.

Psychonauts, currently.
Also, this is coming from someone who has 120+ hours of Fallout 3 gametime.

I have high hopes for games coming out in 2009, but we'll see.

Also, I haven't played much of DoW II yet except for multiplayer which is much different than the campaign.

Portal is the most innovative shooter of this generation.

The Orange Box isn't really a game more of a compilation. You would have to pick a specific game like Portal or TF2. I don't think Half Life 2 Counts either because it was a previous generation game.(correct me if I'm wrong)

How about Portal is the most innovative single player and Left 4 Dead the most innovative multiplayer? That sound fair? I love Portal and do agree with you on innovation but I certainly don't find it drawing me in to play regularly.

Timeshift

I've only played a few current gen games, timeshift is the one I had most fun with.

I'm not counting Half Life 2, since its a 2004 release, but EP2 was hot diggity!

PS2 is still supported.

I know it's a couple years old, but it's still...

Ugh, fine.

Mirror's Edge was really damn good, and I want more of this type of thing.
I considered that but decided that since Sony isn't far from discontinuing support for the PS2 It probably didn't count.

P.S I also Enjoyed Mirrors Edge.

Crysis!

"it just eye candy" My ass. I haven't played any other first-person shooters games that offers you a nano suit and customizable weapons to interact in a interactive sandbox enviroment.
Isn't Using "interact" and "interactive" in the same sentence so close together a bit redundant?
