What are some moments in games you know were supposed to be emotional, but you just weren't feeling it due to indifference/bad acting etc? For me the best example that comes to mind is at the end of FFX when
Tidus and Auron disappear. No one seemed to care at all besides Yuna
I wanted to feel sad there, but it was done too poorly in my opinion

Devil May Cry.

When Trish or whatever her name was died.

In fact I don't think I've ever cared about a Capcom character.

Oh thank God, I thought Violet_Zero was back again...

Anyway, I never got to see that bit of FFX because I never completed it (damn Jecht Second Form...) before I left my family's PS2 behind when I went to uni. Though I didn't particularly feel sad when Sgt. Johnson got killed in Halo 3. Nor when Miranda Keyes died. I did feel much rage for both deaths though, leading me to go completely medieval on the Flood and the Covenant...

Gears of War 2
I really don't think I have to mention the scene.

The scene was fairly depressing, but I didn't really feel all that sad.

I believe that's called a narm moment. It's similar anyway.

Dom's wife in Gears Of War 2.

My mantra was "don't care, don't care, don't care, just let me shoot things"
He had to shoot her in the face. That was sad.

Halo. I never cared about anything or anyone in that game. The Master Chief is pure archetypal bad-ass but everyone else was pretending to be someone worth thinking about. Cortana is the worst offender.

The problem with that game was no matter how well they developed the russian part of the game, they did exactly the wrong thing with the american part. I saw the russian levels as a reward for slugging through so many jungles and beaches infested with japanese.

The Russian campaign definitely captured all the hate and ferocity on the Eastern Front but the American campaign felt too similar and uneventful, except for the flamthrowers though.

I'm not a very emotional person so much of these sorts of things are lost on me. I understand why one would be sad but it usually just passes me by so... yeah

one thing I do feel is affection in games, like in Bioshock 2 with the little sisters I enjoy bringing them around and protecting them like my own little girls or something.

aren't they cute :)

Any scene in which an NPC "heroically" sacrifices themselves in order to avert a minor nuisance. Should I even bother to list examples, or can I just point to military shooters and RPGs in general?

Any interaction in ANY Bioware game. If you watch the ME2 review by Yatzee it states it the best. They just have this weird/creepy dead face and odd motions. It makes it feel like everything is being done by bad actors and I just get weirded out, not emotional.

Gears of War 2 (NOT SAD):

I'm not naturally that big a dick, but I laughed when Dom killed his wife. I was so tired of his incessant bitching for two games, that I was more than happy to finally have done with it.

Sad moments in games? Err...

Mass Effect 1:

Having to make the call on whether Ashley or Kaiden dies wasn't really "sad" but was more a difficult and depressing choice.

Dragon Age:

Not being able to recruit Teryrn Loghain without losing Alastair made me kinda sad... but only because Loghain is KAIN and KAIN is always... awesome.
