Sorry, should I be sad right now?

When anyone- anyone at all- dies in a Fire Emblem game. "Oh, he died, huh? Well, I can never use him again, per se, but I picked up a thousand new people exactly like him a while back, sooooo... why do I care again?"

Most of the time, characters get killed off just for the heck of it. When a writer thinks the story needs a sad part, they kill someone. That's when you don't care. On the other hand, I did care in MGS3 for
the Boss
not only because of the nice character but also because the story demanded this death.

Well I don't blame you.
EDIT: oh, and Marik2, love your name, just reminded me immediatly of Yu-Gi-Oh abridged "Marik, thats the wrong song!"

hahaha, i would have maybe cared if she wasn't a total cow throughout most of the game, and the obvious voice reason.
I'm trying really hard to think, and i can honestly say i don't remember crying over any game character ever. Not to say that i'm a heartless person, or that i'm too much of a manly man to cry, as i've cried multiple times in Anime's (never the manga's oddly enough) and even once or twice in other movies.
i remember crying in a game when i was a kid... out of pure frustration that it wasn't working! damn did we have some of the most scratched disks for Playstation.

oh, i've thought of one (the playstation jogged my memory), Monster Rancher for playstation. My frikking Monster was like, 2 tournaments away from becoming the top, i'd spent so many afternoons, weekends on it... and then it just goes an bloody dies, with no warning whatsoever. I cried because of frustration, it seemed like such a waste of time, and i don't know, maybe being a kid i'd actually bonded with that none-real creature.

But other than maybe that one time, i've grown up a bit after that and realised that a lot of "emotional scenes" are done really poorly. Take MGS2 for example (wow, i've referred to MGS on multiple occasions today) when... ah.... how do i spoiler tag?
Oh, it is done like it usually is in forums, glad i checked. i've gotten too used to just being able to click a tab or something which slots one in for me... anyway, sorry, rambling a bit there
when Emma Emmerich died. I feel like i should have been sad, particularly watching those last moments with Otacon, the parrot included... but i just couldn't seem to get over the fact that it was Vamp that did it... bloody hell was i annoyed at him! not the fact that Emma was dead, just that he was the one to do it. He's easily my most hated Metal Gear Character... except for maybe Roy Campbell, who is actually redeeming himself as i play Portable Ops, doesn't seem to hide any info from me there!

When Xion died in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days

Forgive me, Mr. Nomura, was I supposed to care about her? Her incessant whining, the fact that she's in NO OTHER GAMES, and just thrown in there for NO BLOODY REASON made me just not care.

Admittedly, I shed a tear when I saw the Japanese version for the first time...but that was only because I had no idea what they were saying and it was my first time seeing it. When the English version came out, it could have been awesome, except it was ruined by one line:

Xion! Who else will I have Ice Cream with?

......... Really? REALLY? That is, hands down, THE STUPIDEST line I have ever witnessed in a video game. Goddamn it...

The whole Halo 3 Cortana reunion thing. I was just happy she stopped popping up and forcing you to walk everywhere after that.

And in Gears 2, I wasn't entirely unemotional after Maria's death, but at the end
when Marcus thinks Anya's dead. Not built up at all. Seemingly no reason for him to care any more than he did about Carmine (either of them), but he gets to similar levels of pseudo-emotionality as Dom previously

The only time i can think of(im a emotional guy) was in FF7: Could be a SPOILER, you never know Aries Dies, granted i never got that far but, after watching play through's people have done, i dont think that would change if i did play the game all the way through.
Meh, you're not the only one. She was dumb enough to leave without telling anyone when a psychotic killer is on the loose and you're trying to stop him. She got what she deserved for not having enough faith in her "friends" to ask them to go with her.

I thought it was a desperate attempt to pull emotional strings and make the team have a driving force to complete their mission so she didn't die in vein.

Darkness, when his gash was murdered (i think her name was jenny)
1. The gun was ENOURMOUS
2. I honestly did not care
You unfeeling monster! I bet you didn't even watch To Kill a Mockingbird with her. :'(

In CoD3 when anyone died, I was happy when they died, it meant the unskippable cutscenes would be getting shorter. No, Brothers in Arms did the who sacrifice thing right.
Instead of people constantly dying, Baker is slowly going insane, "Red" Hartsock is paralyzed from the waist down. Corrion no longer trusts Baker after seeing his condition first hand and being passed up for premotion by one of his best friends, and he had previously been passed up TWICE for Hartsock and Baker. Leggett saw his squad massacred and while making his way to safety with the two other survivors they were ambushed, Leggett being the only one to make it out alive. Leggett was later killed in battle but constantly appears to Baker to criticise him.

It's not really a spoiler. It's common knowledge that anyone of your team mates can die in the final mission.
Not to everyone it isn't.

And the very existence of the character in question is in itself a massive spoiler.

But if you want to go ahead and ruin someone's day be my guest.

Why the hostility?
I didn't say who or what the character was, all I gave was a name.
Saying something might possibly happen if you do or don't do something unspecific isn't spoiling anything.

Dom's wife in Gears Of War 2.
True. I was hoping they'd find her dead just so they could stop wasting time on one person and get on with saving the fucking world.

When Luis gets wangpaled. I found it hard to care about anything else going on in that scene when it honestly looked like Saddler's mutant dick just pierced a dude's chest.

Can't think of a game example right now and I'm sorry but every-fucking-thing from Avatar, especially
where the na'vi tsu-tey or whatever guy jumped on board of that flying thingy and got murdered
.
I really hate Avatar, as you see.

I'm not being hostile really, sorry if I came off that way. (besides I would be reluctant to be hostile to someone with Lamb of God as their avatar, did you get Wrath?), I just felt the thread was getting a little spoilerific and didn't want things to get ruined for people.

I can see how it isn't really a spoiler if you know nothing about the game, but it's always better safe than sorry I guess.
