To be a guardsmen instead?
i didnt play the DOW2 campaign on principle, i dont play as the space marine on last stand on dow2 or as them in skirmish, i hate space marines they are bland and uninteresting.
Now i have not played the demo, nor will i, nor will i buy the game.
I would much rather a game be made where i get to play as gaunts ghosts, they are the most popular book series and could easily make a few games from the many books, and i would love to be the player character of actual heroes like Gaunt, Mkoll, Ezrah, Rawne, Larkin, etc...

much more than i would be a space marine, and if i fathom from reading here, the space marine in game is alot weaker than space marines in lore, but alot stronger than marines in other games due to balance issues.

Interesting bit of lore, Orks are actually fungii :p
I do agree with you about Gaunt's Ghost and I would love to play a game as a guardsman. Although it would be a tough game to make...since you are basically the cannon fodder of the Imperium.

I used to find Spess Mahrines boring also, brainwashed religious fanatics that I couldn't stand. But I played the demo, and I liked it.

Why won't you even try the demo? If you don't like it, then uninstall it. It makes you feel like on of them, a big hulking brainwashed killing machine.

My only lvl 20 characters in Last stand for retribution is the delightfully British, Lord General, and the bland but overpowered(with lightning claws) Space Marine. And I HATE the Space Marine, I turn my audio off when I use him; but I play it out of the principle that it is a good character to play with sometimes, and can be fun. (and he can tank as good as the mekboy..and healing strikes...and attacks that stack over time and spread to others around you)

*if this doesn't make much sense im sorry; it's 8 AM here and I haven't slept since yesterday at this time.*
I cant play the demo coz my pc wont handle it and i dont have XBL atm im using internet through a dongle lol, i reread the post and i sound quite up myself, il probably lend it off a mate to try it out at some point but my hopes arent high lol.
Funnily my lvl20 on last stand is the chaos sorc for multiple fireballs of death and a regenerating doppleganger that does exploding damage when hit and regains health and energy when he hits back :p
and my lvl 19 mek boy to jump around the screen, laying down mines and dakka with his big shoota :)

I could never ever get into the sorcerer, i find him more interesting than the Marine; but he also seems to have lodged his head firmly up his ass, and I can't stand it. Also he seems to die very quickly.

But lvl 16 in the arena with 3 sorcerers is teh lulz

Yeah...lvl 18; eventually I may get there. Everyone else will be leveled by then though.

I did have a friend that lvl'd everyone to 20 in under 10 hours of gameplay. When I ask how, he just says, and I quote, "I'm pro, you n00b. :)"

I think its pretty awesome. The demo itself with customizable controls on the PC (In a fricken demo!) is IMO an excellent sign about the games high quality. Playing the space marine with just a bolter pistol and chain sword made me feel awesome. The other weapons feel really powerfull too and all of the weapons along with the after battle bloodbaths make me feel like a real badass. Honestly, for me, it trumps the feel of awesomeness that Kratos had for me

The jet pack level is a little better IMO, being able to fly around and send huge groups of orcs flying before you start letting the bolter shots fire or the chainsword swing feel really fun.

Personally I dont think the games going to get repetitive. In the two levels of the demo there are enough enemy changes and excellent feeling combat that even if it is samey I dont think many people will notice.

Keeping in mind its a demo I think SM is going to be a great game, maybe my favorite one this year
I did really like the fact that bolter rounds were fully capable of completely blowing apart an ork. Come to think of bolters, Bullets that explode, those crazy space marine sure love joyous overkill, huh?

It kind of reminded me of the bulletstorm demo, in the way that at points, it drove to involuntary yelling due to the sheer awesomeness of it all. Nothing's more awesome than being at the brink of death and saying "I...am...a SPACE MARRRRIIIIIINE!" and charging into a crowd of orks to replenish your health by appeasing shao Kahn with your fataliti-erm, I mean appeasing the emperor with your...murder death stabby slicey.
not so much overkill as necessity. orks never actualy stop growing, and can still kick your ass with only half a head and half a body. they do say 'space marines love to get up close and personal' but this is but a lie as any competend space marine player can tell you. what space marines DO love. is standing WAY WAY back, with way too much firepower.
cause if the orks reach you with enough orks left. you WILL die.
( or if they reach you with a few nobs, a waagh banner, and a big mek with a burna. but thats another story for another time ;)

Ye i know, getting there takes a bit of effort but i enjoyed it past about level 6 when you start to get some good abilites, a funny strategy is to take random flares, exploding doppelgangers, +30%damage gangers, and doombolt, with teleport staff, steal an enemy unit, have them mash each other up, constantly doing AOE dammage randomly when hit, and whenever one dies they do massive dammage, do this in the middle of a horde of enemies(esp tyranids warriors) and teleport your ass out of there :p

Captcha: orkone Space... lol

well in DoW like... 7/9 guys who made those games play eldar...so they made them OP because they like them :/
also in the table top the space marines ARE gods...only because the guy who writes their codex has an ultramarine fetish.... argue all you want but what i say is true...
well not realy. but they are a bit nooby friendly yes. get close to the beakies with power weapons though bye bye ultra smurf! the orks have a limited aount of ways to tear beakies appart. but they do exist. tau has some troubles. nids win hands down no competititon in OP-ness, spacewolves wont even begin mentioning those are SO much more op then beeks. guard = arty away till nothing stands or drop stormtroopers behind beeks and use those anti-armour lasguns of theirs. spacemarines arent gods. cause if they were gods, why all the chapters. why the mass reqruitment. WHY THE IMPERIAL GUARD.
because my friend. how ever stong they may be. they still only wear ceremite armour, only have 2 hands. and are as mortal as an ork. ( say about 2.5 times less likely to die by injury then your average human. not counting the ceramite armour. )
not gods. just wercking balls. and nids and orks are better at that ( not boys, nobs/warbosses. boys SHOULD fall in droves. )

I will now describe a marine. Heaviest armro/dlc armor. Lightning claws, preferably dlc shield, jump pack, healing strikes, extra health/extra regen, and a dreadnaught...and there you go. You don't have to do anything for about 10 waves, he just murders everyone. Lightning claws do damage over time to the enemy squad, and the damage stacks, so you do more and more damage; if you use the relic dlc armor, you hurt everyone around you with AOE attacks. Healing strikes keep you healed and the dread helps you get more kills...and the jumppack gets you the killing faster.

Just watch out for mass banshees or fire teams. And all the shooty tryanids. You can kill anything one on one. Nurgle, baneblade, avatar; all fall before your wrath. (like I tell friends, you don't have to worry about the big guy, worry about all the little guys.)

But none of it is fun...he is the most boring to play. Other than tryanid, since one of my friends makes his 'bubblesaur' and leaves his computer since it's extremely hard to kill.

I prefer the General. Black armor for 50% reduction of melee damage plus 125 armor, sniper for crazy damage and energy regen. Stormtroopers for retreat ability and energy cost reduction, plus the commissar and sergeant for them. And the bombing run. Congratulations, if played right, you can now get to lvl 18 on the anvil without terrible problems.

(or if I'm turtling, guardsmen with plasma rifles.)

i like what i read so far and i put my trus in relic to deliver a good PC version with customizable controls and graphics.

one thing for those who have played it already: does a normal bolter fire in full auto or semi/burst?

YT vid evidence seems to say full auto. the bolt pistol looks like a burster though, not sure.

Melee combat is pretty insubstantial. New weapons are fun for the take-down effects, but spamming the same few attacks all the time was getting boring in what is a pretty short demo.

Also, as far as I can see headshots don't make any difference to the speed orks die (except with the bolter with sniper thing). Every time I went for the head , it was like one-two-three-four shots and now head comes off. The bolter is not a one hit head kill, which is a bit of a shame (even if it might make it too easy). I also don't really get the impression of explosive rounds, but there we go.

The demo was pretty fun, but I don't see how they could stretch it out for an entire game without it becoming boring fairly quickly. New weapons and stuff, sure, but with little ability to take cover, you're simply wading in every single time..

Also, why on earth isn't the melee combat more nuanced? I want to feel like a super-human warrior possessed of amazing skill, rather than a guy who simply swings his weapon in the same three arcs...

Its Awful!!

I hate, i was so excited for this game, I've been following it since it was leaked.

As a huge warhammer Tabletop fan and Book fan, the game just doesn't feel like warhammer at all.......

Space marine squads are often times small sure but..... theres more then 3-4 people per squad, i hear in the game at points you'll be completely alone...

I hate this whole "you don't need cover you have power armor" So! An ork Axe, a banshee blade those can pierce it, hell bullets can kill them, a good old heated laz rifle or plasma rifle can take you out pretty fast.

Space marines love charging sure, but there very tactical very!! they take cover they do stealth they do well planned manuvers, this game its just CHARGE Oh look i have furry! Mash melee win.

Also Orks die a lot sure, but there not completely weak, there like tissue paper in this game. Fun fact did you know orks can actually match a space marines strength (its why there able to pierce there armor with there axes) This game they just die left and right all over the place theres no challenge. There just cannon fodder and thats not how the orks are. The orks are easily fooled and manipulated sure but ther scary. Theres a saying always going around in Warhammer "if the orks were able all band together under 1 Waaaahg banner nobody could stop them"

The game just feels like it was made for non fans, f you have any love for the lore and the table top lore you'll just feel insulted and disgusted. The game had so much promise.
You realize this game was based on the Fluff, and not the tabletop right? You want tabletop rules you play tabletop or find a copy of Final Liberation.

And the reason that Orks can pierce Marine armor is not because they are as strong as marines, but because their psychic field manipulates the warp into believing their choppa can actually do it.

I want this game yesterday!

It's brutal and exciting fun, the last time I enjoyed a game like this was Serious Sam HD.

I am worried about the weapons though. Are there only four guns? I hope there's more.

Also I hope we get more fun things to do like the Jetpack.

Overall, I'm pretty excited for this game, and I'll definitely be buying it.

Finished my first play through and colour me impressed.
Yes the switch between melee and ranged is smooth and flawless, just like they claimed
Combat is visceral and very satisfying executions are freaking awesome !
Normal is not a walk through the park you're going to die if you don't take care (Nobz hit HARD).
The game runs smoothly and flows well.
Jump Packs a freaking sweet !

Kudos on them actually making the PC version a proper pc version and not some half assed port.
