Just saw the first episode of this last night...

The visuals are a shameless rip off of 300 and Gladiator.

The acting ranges from passable to laughably bad.

The special effects and bluescreen shots are atrocious.

The sex is utterly gratuitous and OTT, as is the violence...

..and somehow it's the most fun, compelling thing I've seen on TV in about 3 years. Great, campy, low brow entertainment.

Anyone else been watching? Thoughts?

I saw an advert. Everything in it had been done better in Rome, 300 or Gladiator. Way better. I thought I'd give it a miss. I've got Rome series 1 and 2 box sets, so I've got my Roman fix forever.

I think it looks awesome. Yeah, the blood splatter is a rip-off from 300, but it's something I really enjoyed, so cool beans! Sex, violence, love and revenge, sweet. Acting, well, I guess we'll see.

So, hey, thanks! Another TV show to look forward to.

I was watching it, but then my Dad insisted on watching it with me, and that put the awkward metre off the scale, so I don't watch it anymore.

it already aired here. (holland)

its true. its over the top, its a gorefest. but it sure as hell is fun!

Also notable. the main guy, andy whitfield i believe, has a form of cancer and it has delayed the shows second season... absolute suckage for andy ofcourse(he will survive btw, its treatable and all) but a little suckage for the fans because after the first season u just want MOOOOAAR!!!!

The description sounds cool and the video is nice, but it just reminds me TOO much of 300 to not wonder if these are Spartan Gladiators .. Will try to watch an episode though, could be sweet.

I just like the disclaimer at the beginning that says, "graphic content has been put in the show for historical accuracy." That just makes me laugh. If they were wanting historical accuracy I'm pretty sure the characters shouldn't be speaking English.

The first episode is a horrible representation of the series.

This truly has one of the best stories on TV. After Episode 6 it really picks off, and you'll notice how character refer back to small things from past episodes, especially in the finale.

It is the best TV show I have ever seen, and I wish Andy a speedy recovery so we can have our season 2.
I wasn't sure how I felt about the show until episode 5. I liked it, but I didn't care enough to watch the episodes the day they aired, talk about them to people, etc...

Then I saw episode 5. I'm in.

I put a question regarding one of the episodes in the spoiler box. Won't ruin anything by any means, but I prefer that everything be new to me when I watch it, so I won't ruin it for anybody else.

What was the point of getting Spartacus new shiny armor if he never wears it?

I loved the series but the porn elements were too gratuitous and over the top. I would not point to the show for any kind of historical accuracy but definitely an enjoyable watch. Just make sure the kids are well and truly asleep.

I kinda liked it, but the producer definitely has some kind of weird obsession with blood, specifically everywhere and by the barrelful.

Should be named Blood&boobs hehe :)

I always love Gladiator movies, considering they barely ever fought to the death in real life, why waste good warriors like that?

Great, campy, low brow? Sounds an awful lot like the Xena and Hercules TV shows... Hey wait, Xena is in this! I have to get my hands on this.
Not only is she in it... she's ginger in it.

I saw a couple of eps at a friends house, the epic spear throw at the guy riding away was awesome.

I read that actually... he has non-hodjkins lymphoma, so will hopefully be back on our screens in good health soon enough.

Really? Now that I did not know. I'd imagine they got horrifically wounded though? Or was it cleverly rehearsed and staged like WWE?
