Not really. I'm pretty sure most civil court system are set up so that you initially have to go to court to see if you have a case.LobsterFeng said:Yeah I heard this on the radio yesterday. Only in America, I swear.

Around the same time spankings become "child abuse".Avatar Roku said:What bothers me is, in the ruling, they were talking about how, while her parenting wasn't ideal, it wasn't worthy of a suit. Her parenting wasn't ideal because she didn't bend to her kids' every whim.
When did "good parenting" become "never saying no"?
I meant that only in America would you see something like children suing their own mother because they believe they need more stuff.Dags90 said:Not really. Although the judge threw the case out he made some rather disturbing remarks. I never knew that not spoiling your kids and giving them every little thing they want was called bad parenting. Plus if your in college grow up you dont need "care packages" from your mother.
This made me laugh and its sad that I was thinking the same thing I've become a monster!jakko12345 said:When it says 'sending her son care packages', all i can think of is her throwing a flare into his room and him receiving a killstreak. What have i become...
This is a list of all the allegations given to the court:AndyFromMonday said:Let's judge people without knowing the full story! I mean, the media always has accurate reports and never distorts the truth in order to create controversy, right?
After the divorce, Garrity tried to obtain custody of Kathryn, arguing that the plaintiffs ought to be separated since Steven had been abused by a female adult and therefore might abuse Kathryn. (According to the complaint, this was ironic, since Garrity was the one who abused Steven in the first place. The complaint does not specify what kind of abuse Garrity allegedly committed.)
So it strikes me that the mother may be guilty of some sneaky emotional abuse against the children, (maybe even physical) I have relatives who can be maliciously controlling and fickle like that, and you just can't trust any gossipy story they tell you, and you can't tell them anything but they'll take it out of context and spread it around, but at the end of the day I would never want to sue them, then again they aren't my mother. In 1989, prior to the divorce, while Steven?s father was at work, Steven?s right arm was fractured. Garrity allegedly told different people different stories about what happened: she told the father that it occurred while Steven was at daycare (while refusing to place a claim with the daycare?s medical insurance provider), she told Steven?s paternal grandmother that it occurred while Steven was with a friend, and she later told Steven that it occurred while he was with a babysitter.
