maybe 2003 was just a really slow year
It was a year when genres didn't have "action-" slapped before them.
Great first post ;) Edit: I don't feel I should be the one to welcome you since I'm still a newbie, but howdy. :D

OT: I've not played it. Nor can I articulate any response which will help you to take off your blinders.

But good luck with that.

What you said was boring is what I thought was awesome.

So Zalbaar wasn't interesting? HK47 was not interesting? Or Carth Onasi?

I would love to see what you call a good character then.

I loved the game, and by the looks of this thread, so did everyone else.

I can see your point on this one. I played both the KOTOR games several times to try out different possibilities (because I do that a lot on games), and the detracting factors start to glare even on the second time through. One of the biggest problems I personally have with Bioware games is their level design. They try to make things seem like you're in a huge open environment, when actually you're in a tunnel. You might be in a tunnel made out of trees or barrels or broken machinery or an actual tunnel just to mix things up, but everything's a big tunnel with loading screens to space out the shops, battles, or side quest NPC's.
And side quests. I like side quests, but getting several side quests while just trying to finish one side quest gets annoying to me.
HK-47 is a great character, I was actually surprised at the twist in the first game, and it's always a plus to play as a character with force powers. All in all, I don't hate these games, but there's a lot to put up with for the fun I get out of them.
Currently playing Mass Effect 2 for the first time and having a hard time not hating it. Maybe it's because I went straight from playing ME1 four times in a row and decided to try Insane difficulty just to get the achievement right away, but I'm willing to stick with it because Shepard needs to get the job done.
P.S. I wonder how long before someone hates on Jade Empire. Too late: I work my ass off for a new fighting style and it's only three moves? What the hell, bro'?

Are you kidding me? KotOR was the Game of the Year for a reason, you know.

Also, opinions. They are like assholes. Everyone has one, but they all stink to a different degree.

..In this case, I'm not actually convinced you played the game to the fullest extent.

That is all.

I liked the games but they are now dated. Obsidian was forced to release an incomplete game for KOTOR 2 to meet the holiday season. Silent protagonists don't cut it anymore.

Not to offend anyone but why is it that not liking a popular game is considered news worthy? I can understand explaining your reasons to others in similar threads but creating your own just to tell everyone, "I don't like (blank) and here's why you're all wrong!" is pretty pointless to me.

/rant.

As previously mentioned it's 7 years old and eventually all games evolve past their predecessors. Mass Effect is virtually a predecessor to the original KOTOR games and it's widely hailed nowadays. I personally still love the game but it's scenarios have just gotten too repetitive for me.

I haven't played it and I'll never do it. It just looks like another overhyped Star Wars game to me.

Both games were fucking fantastic.

Second one was way better though, even in its unfinished state.

If they had a realistic deadline for it then I'm pretty sure it would have been my favourite game of all time.

Troll, obviously.
I can't see how he's a troll when he's expressing his opinion on something.

OT: I liked it a lot on the second time I played it, good story, good characters, combat was OK. Very well designed game.

I only just got KotOR off steam not long ago and to be honest even playing it just now even though it's like 7 years old i still think it's a fucking awesome game. You have your opinion everyone else has theirs it's simply not the game for you.

Why are there so many threads about not liking popular games? We get it, your opinions differ from the majority, you really don't have to make a big deal about it, people. I personally wasn't too fond of Bioshock, but I just accepted that it wasn't for me and moved on with my life. Making this sort of thread is not the sort of thing a reasonable, well-balanced individual should feel the need to do.

Incidentally, I liked Kotor. I liked the characters, I liked the setting, the combat was alright, and even the graphics only occasionally became an issue, despite playing it earlier this year.

Now if ytou'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play something not boring.

p.s I do argee with you on most points. I wouldn't say they're overrated, since they do have some really excellent design points, but I didn't like them. I just found KOTOR and KOTOR 2 really boring.

The Star Forge is right where the game gets amazing for me. It's no cakewalk, and the final battle with Malak remains one of my favourites because of it's difficulty and it's set up. Do you destroy the pods containing the jedi, killing them? Or do allow them to become lifless husks as Malak uses their force energy against you? Not to mention Malak has some insane abilities that test even the best RPG players.
the star forge they just seemed to send out endless easy enemies, which isnt difficult its just annoying. malak i thought was easy. i had force immunity or whatever its called so he could barely even hurt me. all i had to do was flurry, flurry, flurry, heal while he's busy with a tank, and repeat til he runs out of tanks.

Well that's only you. Really, boring story, characters ?
Are we talking about KOTOR or something else because KOTOR doesn't have any of those problems you listed.
I know that not everybody can love a game but you are REALLY a minority in this one.
I played a shitload of games and I've never seen a story as engaging as in KOTOR.
i thought the reven thing was interesting but i felt that part of the plot was underplayed. the story behind the star forges i found to be uninteresting. by the time you learned what the star forge and maps were, i had long since stopped caring about them. as far as characters go, i had a really hard time taking malak seriously. he seemed to me like he just wanted some attention.

I'm now interested to hear what game you consider to be great RPGs, since you just tore apart KOTOR.
-my favorite rpg series will always be baldurs gate (the original games, for the pc. not that dark alliance crap).
-i really like the fallout series (mainly 1 and 2. never played 3 because from what ive seen of it, it just doesnt seem like fallout. seems like they sacrificed a lot of the strategic elements in favor of action. but i never played it so i cant judge).
-i liked oblivion but thought the main quest sucked compared to the thieves guild and black hand quests
-i dont play many jrpgs because they're so long and melodramatic that i just lose interest at around the halfway point, but i thought final fantasy 7 was pretty good, by no means my favorite but still pretty good. 10 i liked mainly because of the combat system because it prevented you from picking 3 characters to use the whole game, while ignoring the rest, which i have a habit of doing in turn based rpgs

honestly, i could look over the games faults if kotor 2 hadnt been so broken for me. i dont know if it was an issue with the game itself or if windows 7 or pc hardware was conflicting with it, but i had bugs that eliminated sound from cutscenes, bugs that skipped npcs dialog and made the game jump straight to my response, and a bug that wouldnt let me load any save files, other than the autosave. sometimes it would say its saving but never actually save, and sometimes it would take it upon itself to just delete saves (like i would go to load an auto-save and my auto-save would have been replaced by an older auto-save file).
ive seen plenty of issues like this on forums for kotor2 so it cant be just my hardware and it just really irritates me that this kind of thing made it past the testing process. these issues seem like kind of a big deal to me.

sorry again for the length. to make up for it, if you ever find me on the street, i will buy you a soda
