I love them both. Its such a good series. I liked the second one better. And to anyone who beat the first one how do you get by the room with the computers and reproducing droids?

I dunno, the OP's complaint about the game has lost any and all credibility by the horrible way it was typed out. Makes me think our little troll here is little more than thirteen or fourteen.

So, I can file it under being spoiled by better graphics and polished gameplay, of not appreciating the game for it's excellence due to the year in which it came out when compared with other games of it's time.

That's the point: for it's year, it was an absolute masterpiece of roleplaying in the Star Wars universe. The combat was interesting, and (while a little dry due to it's simplicity) was definitely something that actually worked, and got the story going along. It might be it hit a sweet spot on me because I liked how it stayed mostly true to the DnD formula of the D20 rule-set, but...that's just me. :p

I'm actually half tempted to play that KOTOR MMO that's coming out soon. It sounds (haven't seen it yet) to be pretty cool, and the era in which it's placed definitely makes me even more interested. I'm one of those people who loves sci-fi, but I like a...what I like to call "believable science fiction". Firefly and Serenity are my two best examples of the sci-fi type that I absolutely worship and find infinitely more interesting and entertaining than the more polished, futuristic world of, say, Star Trek.

...er, sorry, I kinda got off topic. Bottom line: KOTOR is great for it's time, though compared with games now-a-days, it falls more under the "Greatest Hits" category.

I don't see the point in what your doing. Any point someone makes you just say "I hated that bit! that was easy/boring/over rated".

You are allowed to hate a game if you want. You disliking KOTOR doesn't change the fact it is one of the best role playing games ever made. Look at the poll. People here know there games and people here love it.

You arguments have no substance behind them what so ever. You aren't citing valid criticisms of the game, you are just expressing your opinion. The same things you are calling "BORING" are the same things that have achieved serious critical praise. You have a generally negative opinion on the game, congratulations. Stop drawing attention to yourself. Now move on.

Believe it or not, some things in life that are really good you wont enjoy. I don't enjoy Led Zeppelin. Should I start a thread saying "stairway to heaven is the most OVER RATED song ever and kashmir is BORING and Physical Graffiti is the WORST album ever made!"

No, I shouldn't. Because that would make me a twat.

Troll post is trolling. Why are people responding to this?

Though while we're on the subject, I've seen a lot of people talking about how the "Big Twist" was shocking, about how it was a classic, etc. If you didn't see that "twist" coming from an hour into the game, well, you may want to seek psychological help. KOTOR was a fantastic game, but the story was as transparent as paper wrapped around a McRib. The gameplay was great, the characters were great, it was an overall brilliant game but the story was laid out so blatantly that Tardy McTard could have told you the entire plot from the first ten minutes.

Why are there so many threads about not liking popular games? We get it, your opinions differ from the majority, you really don't have to make a big deal about it, people. I personally wasn't too fond of Bioshock, but I just accepted that it wasn't for me and moved on with my life. Making this sort of thread is not the sort of thing a reasonable, well-balanced individual should feel the need to do.
Because disliking what other people like is cool. Because people who like what others like are "mainstream", and therefore sheep, and therefore have worthless opinions.

Anyway, my next thread; "Why breathing totally over-rated and anyone who disagrees with me should shut up". I think it'll be a winner.

I've always been a sucker for good writing and stories, and KOTOR is almost unparalleled in that area (and only other bioware games seem to come close).
Good writing? Okay, most of it was competent. Some of it was awful. Very little was actually good - at least I don't think so. I laughed all the way through the scene where
the bad guys torture your companions to get you to talk.
It was so badly written, full of cliches, and the voice actors had a terrible time with it. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed KotOR - when it wasn't crashing and losing my last hour's progress. The characters are engaging, the plot has some cool twists - as game stories go, it's very good. But then, game stories in general are pretty bad...

I guess I already knew that; I just needed to vent a bit. This sort of arrogance really gets under my skin. On a related note, you have no idea how grateful I am that I didn't get a "OMG you didn't like Bioshock?!?!?" response.

ok i think something needs to cleared up. im not saying its a bad game because i didnt like it, obviously popular opinion and reviews suggest otherwise. if my friend tells me that sprite sucks im not gonna be like "fuck you, i love sprite!" i was stating my opinion as a preface to my question of WHY people loved it so much, because if im one of the only people who disliked it, it seems like im probably missing something.
as i said, this is a duplicate thread i made by mistake so the question isnt worded as well because i had to (or rather, thought i had to) rewrite it. i can see how the title of this thread would imply hostility and arrogance, and i can even understand why some people are accusing me of trolling. i encourage you to click the link to my original thread, i think my point may be explained a bit better there but if not, i hope this cleared things up a little. my goal was never to attack you for your opinion and im sorry for coming off that way

What I got from the OP-

"I have an opinion different from most of you! LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!"

Don't be offended, I think the exact same thing every time I see a thread like this where "I dislike popular game X" or "Game Y is horribly overrated"

Know what? I don't care. You just want attention, and by posting in your thread I've already given too much to you.
This so hard. I am so sick of these threads.
You've even got a badass avatar, so this post wins.

KoTOR is one of my all-time favorite games. KoTOR II is up there as well though to a lesser extent. That's weird (really weird) that you like the second game but not the first. Oh well, as I always say, that's just individual differences at work.

While I think it can be regarded as 'overrated' in some circles, more so the Star Wars crowd, but it is a good game none the less.

Meh anyway, as others have stated, if you want to know why it was so good, go read an actual review published in 2003 or whatever. It's not like google suddenly stopped existing and this forum is the only beacon of knowledge left in existence.
I find that asking people who have played a particular game is often a more useful source of information. they are generally more honest and passionate about it than your average video game reviewer...though if i had known i would have been called a troll so many times for asking this question, i probably would have rethought my decision to post this (though i can see why they would think i was just trying to spark debate. the question should have been worded better)

i suppose the answer to my question, overall, is that the reason i didnt like it (aside from the bugs that plagued the second game) is most likely because, by the time i got around to play it, most of the elements of the game which were fresh and innovative at the time, are now pretty standard in most rpgs.

I loved both games, and i'm not sure if there's something wrong with me, but i like KOTOR 2 better than the first one despite it's immeasurable number of glitches and bugs.

I don't know what it was... the darker and more mysterious plot, the overall "darker" feel to the game or the fact that you could make your character look like obi-wan kenobi, were all reasons why i loved the game. First one is great, second one could have been my favourite game of all time if they managed to finish the HK facility and actually had some bug testing happening.
