By today standards, yes they suck, but they laid the groundwork for Bioware as a company, not only that but the KotOR MMO looks promising
he isn't the greatest of powerful party members, but if you get dual wielding zabrak III pistols or fett pistols all upgraded, along with a few droid upgrades, and he has master rapid shot, him or carth will do some decent fucking damage in the background.00slash00 said:a lot of people have mentioned hk. maybe i would have enjoyed it more if i had used him, but unless i was required to have a particular person in my party, it always consisted of me, juhani (or whatever her name is) and bastila or jolee. my logic was: force powers + lightsabers >blastersgmaverick019 said:well it all depends, personally i love that kind of gameplay, i love the more strategic view of it rather than run in spaming the fuck out of clicking/hitting buttons like oblivion/fallout (not saying its bad, its just over used), and i think they did WAY better than george lucas did with the whole star wars lore, for its time, both kotor 1 and 2's stories filled me to the rim with nerdgasm's, and i've beaten both games about...40-50 times or so, so that tells you something about how much i do love them.
apples and oranges, people have opinions, while i dont think some people go into depth on why they like something, as long as they aren't portraying their opinions onto you in a elitist manner i dont think you should have to explain your love for something.
honestly, the story and characters will remembered for years to come as some major classics among star wars, especially HK, his style of dialogue...fucking epic.
i actually didnt think the game was strategic enough. maybe its because i was a guardian so except for using buffs before a tough fight, all i really had to do to win was spam expert flurry. i would have preferred an overhead view, like in baldurs gate or the original fallout games. that, by the way, is why i havent played fallout 3. im sure its a great game but it doesnt feel like part of the fallout series. the fallout series i know is an overhead turn based strategy rpg, not a fps/rpg hybrid
Well, I've played both KOTOR's and I found them interesting but felt like they were really drawn out sometimes and the combat wasn't anything to go crazy over, but they were still fun in my opinion. Now on to a better topic. The title of this thread and main question behind it.00slash00 said:i know im probably in the minority. i know of only one other person who hates kotor as much as i do but why does everyone love this game so much, besides that fact that it has star wars in the title? what am i missing?

If you didn't like a game, you didn't like a game. You don't see me making threads asking why people loved Halo so much. Or how people could play Fallout 3 more than a couple of times. Or why anyone even wants New Vegas when it's the same damned thing.
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. What may be the greatest thing ever for one person may be utterly pointless for another.
I loved KOTOR. Haven't gotten 2 yet, so I can't judge it.
The combat was iffy, for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I also didn't go into the game expecting some revolutionary form of story telling. I went in expecting a good story. Nothing new and unique, just good. And I got exactly that. A good story.
no i get that but usually that creates groups of people. group a loved it, group b didnt like it, group c though it was ok, etc. based on everyone who talked about the game (before i ever played it), as well as the opinions of people who commented on this thread, suggests to me that there is pretty much only one group for kotor: people who loved the game. as i have said, i am not telling anyone they are wrong for liking the game or saying that the fact that i dislike it makes it bad game. i only posted this because it seems very strange to me that my opinion would differ from pretty much the entire gaming community.gbemery said:Well, I've played both KOTOR's and I found them interesting but felt like they were really drawn out sometimes and the combat wasn't anything to go crazy over, but they were still fun in my opinion. Instead of "why do people like the kotor series so much?" wouldn't a better question be, "why do people love making threads about why people love things I don't?", or "Why do people have different tastes and opinions then I?" or just "Why doesn't everyone just like what I like?"
Well the simple answer to them all is this, because people have minds different from your own. This causes symptoms such as differences in hobbies, interest, opinions and sometimes mild itching. The sooner you understand that the sooner you can move on and be happy with life. Trust me there is more interesting things out there then trying to understand why people do things.
It's really not that hard:00slash00 said:im still excited for the old republic, but much less so now. based on the amount of bugs in kotor 2, im not entirely confident the old republic will work at all.
yea i didnt realize kotor 2 wasnt made by bioware, nor did i realize it was rushed out. given that i can forgive the bugs....well know i can understand why there are bugs but im still thoroughly pissed off about them since they are preventing me from being able to play the game. anyway, given this information im no longer worried about the old republic mmo. it seems like it will push mmorpgs forward. ever since wow, mmos seem to be afraid to try new thingsWoodsey said:It's really not that hard:00slash00 said:im still excited for the old republic, but much less so now. based on the amount of bugs in kotor 2, im not entirely confident the old republic will work at all.
Obsidian made KotOR 2, BioWare made 1 and are making ToR. How people get the 2 confused still is beyond me.
OT: KotOR is in my top 5 games of all time. The second was OK.
And the plot twist was just pure deliciousness.
Yeah but you would expect that by just the law of averages that every now and then one will get a game, movie or book that a large group A likes. Then the people who really don't like it/hate it in group B is so small you would have to search long and hard for them. Then the other small group C the "meh" group will just out of sake of saving time say they like it or you would have to search just as equally hard for them. This would go for all three ways too. A game where the largest group hates it, and a group where the largest group is on the fence and can take it or leave it.00slash00 said:no i get that but usually that creates groups of people. group a loved it, group b didnt like it, group c though it was ok, etc. based on everyone who talked about the game (before i ever played it), as well as the opinions of people who commented on this thread, suggests to me that there is pretty much only one group for kotor: people who loved the game. as i have said, i am not telling anyone they are wrong for liking the game or saying that the fact that i dislike it makes it bad game. i only posted this because it seems very strange to me that my opinion would differ from pretty much the entire gaming community.
