As said in the title I recommend that everyone complaining about Spore's DRM shut the fuck up already.

Yes, the DRM is abnormally invasive and is really lame.

But No, the game is not bad.

I am sick and tired of people saying that DRM ruins the game, it doesn't. It impedes the game, it ruins the experience, but the game itself is still fun. Have you all forgotten about that concept? Have we all forgotten that people used to play games for fun and not to lord over the others in our PC gamer master race status?

Spore is fun, some of the stages are short, but its a sandbox game, if you go through it just trying to get ahead you aren't going to enjoy yourself. Stop focusing on the end and just enjoy the journey you stupid bastards.

It's not like you even have to deal with the DRM, if you hate it so much PIRATE IT ALREADY! It's not that hard, it takes a few hours and some harddrive space. The cracked version has been out for weeks.

People seem to think that by not playing the game they are sending a message to EA, that's not quite right, by not BUYING the game you are sending a message. If you pirate it you get to play the game without all the DRM and EA still doesn't get any money.

So Shut up about the DRM and just enjoy the fucking game, a lot of people worked really hard to bring it to you and it's not their fault that the EA higher ups are paranoid wankers.

In conclusion Security and Game are two seperate entities. You can't rate a game based on extraneous influences. Rate the game based on the actual game and stop being such a whiny little *****.

I don't like the tone of that, Limos. The DRM has kept many people from being able to play a game that they paid money for... That gives them a right to complain. And, if you think that security and game are separate things, read about Sins of a Solar Empire at some place like Gamespot to see how popular it was because it had no DRM implemented

EDIT: I take back a bunch of what I said due to the repentance of Limos

The problem is that it's so very easy to just pirate the game, (which I think once you buy it you shouldn't really have any particular objection to), people are so busy complaining about the DRM that the game itself has been forgotten.

It was okay when people were saying "DRM ruins the experience." But it's not okay now that I'm seeing people saying "SPORE is such a crappy game!! It doesn't even work!! Will Wright lied to us!!" They've forgotten why they objected and people are complaining about Spore rather than the DRM.

I'm tired ot the DRM debate overshadowing the game itself.

This does not bode well for you... *ominous music*
I know, I'm totally going to get banned for this...

I started to regret it right after I posted, but I think my point remains valid.

Fair enough.... But still, having consumers do something like that just to play the game is like having to go steal a house because the one you just bought has an impenetrable diamond fence around it

I was all set to hate Spore and complain profusely about the DRM. But your impassioned speech has changed my heart. Thank you sir.

I guess it's like when you are drunk and you send an angry and badly typed e-mail to your boss, only to sober up later and click the "delete" button and the message comes up saying "this message has already been sent" - then you realize what you've done.

Anyway, Yes, we are aware of this, and it's why people pirated the game, or bought it and cracked it.

Now lets get back to whining about DRM so it can get out of our face.

I agree with your point, but I must say, I would've worded it differently.

The Ban-hammer cometh.

Omigod I am sooooooooo dead.

Anyways, before I am banhammerd out of existence I just want to say that I don't care about people complaing about the DRM.

I'm mad because people are getting secondhand anger and misplacing it to the game. People who aren't as in the know are saying the game sucks because they heard other people complain about the DRM, but they don't know what that is so they just complain about the game.

I tried explaing DRM to some casual gamers and I just couldn't pound it through their thick skulls.

I think it's more like having a trusted friend build you a really awesome house but then his retarded cousin wants to help out and builds the impenatrable diamond fence all around it without putting in a gate. So then you go ask the burgalar next door to show you how to jump the fence.

Limos you can repent, just rename your title to "Spore is good, DRM isn't, don't confuse the two." or something of that nature.

Going from a title only impression, I thought this was another topic about those brats on Xbox Live.

Anyway, if your sick of hearing about it now I suggest you just stop paying attention altogether. DRM is liable to get worse, so the majority of PC titles coming out with such systems are going to get horribly flames.

There's some irony here about telling whiny people to stop whining, then writing posts whining about how whiny people whine.

Here's a tip: Don't give it attention. Your e-action will not affect the e-actions of thousands of others. The internet is hot with flames, and fighting fire with fire does not work.

My advice? Close the tab or window and don't pay them any attention.

Well lets see here. I don't know if the DRM was the cause of my copy not working, or if it was the game itself, but if it doesn't work, damn straight I'm going to whine about it. What do you expect? When all those people were killed and/or injured from the faulty Firestone tires on the Ford Explorers, don't you think THEY whined about it? I'm not saying tires that kill people and a game that doesn't work are on the same level, but faulty is faulty. And be it tires, games, or whatnot, when the customer gets a faulty product, they are going to tell everyone they know... It's called reputation, and Maxis's is now as bad as EA's.

Also OP, if you cared to read, there were also a lot of people complaining about how criminally short the game was, how it didn't deliver on any of the grand promises, and how Maxis/EA have backed out of the multiple accounts feature. There's more being bitched about than just DRM.
I think the difference is that the DRM isn't the game. The DRM is something really stupid that is sitting between you and the game, but it isn't the game itself. Unlike your tire example it wasn't the game istelf that failed. It's like bitching about how terrible your waffles are because the box they come in is hard to open. The packaging might be a pain in the ass but it doesn't determine whether or not the game is good.

Sure the game has flaws, but doesn't everything? And I think that the people complaining it's too short aren't playing it right. You shouldn't be hellbent on getting to the end, just play the game. I'm in space stage right now and I probably will be in space stage for an ass long time because there is so much to do. And even then I still haven't explored the Herbivore path.
