So natural, when you play video games and people say they are bad and sports are better, you will start looking up loopholes and stuff like that to prove a point.

Yes, some of those points were made, but really? "Sports are worse than videogames"? Last time I checked the Olympic games were bigger than those Korean guys playing some game I can't remember.

I know what your TRYING to get at.

And by your logic it would also be unfair to say that videogames get you in shape (I am well aware that nobody is claiming that).

However, you are insinuating that you are comparing the two based completely on their own merit, but you are not doing that. You are giving videogames extra leverage.

I'm going to be generous (mainly because you seem to want to stick to your guns here) and concede that videogames themselves don't reverse your health as a side effect of participating in them (although I do belive that they do).

But lets say that we live in a world where its impossible to become out of shape unless you purposely work on it.

We will have something that looks like this:

Unworking out < Remaining stationary (videogames) < Being active.

You're stacking the deck to give video games an advantage.

Theyre all right points. I could give examples to strike down your arguments. But I wont since I'm feeling nice today.

The first two points are okay sort of but the last point just doesn't make any sense.

You're trying to claim that physical activity is BAD FOR YOU.
I'm promoting physical activity. As I said I work out while I game, I encourage others to do the same. I'm implying that sports are bad because you're less active, but likely to get the crap beat out of you and wind up with broken limbs and half your IQ score.
You're less active playing sports?

Running up and down a field playing soccer for hours = inactive??

I don't actually think sports are that bad in moderation. I'm just trying to show that really you can apply the exact same arguments to sports. That's got to mean something. What I'm ultimately trying to get at is that gaming isn't bad, or at least better than obsessing over sports.

Also almost 700 posts already? Didn't you join like a week ago or something. Good job!

That's only if you're good at it, otherwise you're stuck on the bench. Even during scrimmages though it's negligible to how much exercise I get when I work out while gaming.

Yes! I've been here for almos... WAIT! Don't change the subject. Sports can't be bad for your health, even if you get hurt.

Organized sports =/= all sports. And even then, you have practice. I lost 20 pounds over one football season with relatively little gametime.

And honestly, I get the point you're trying to make with this, but you're doing it wrong. At the end of the day, the guy who obsessively works to become better at a physical activity will be healthier than someone who works obsessively to be good at an electronic activity.

Okay, I legitimately lol'd there for like 30 seconds, my sister just asked what was so funny...

Sports injuries are really serious though. I've seen a lot of my friends be in and out of hospitals because of broken limbs, twisted ankles, and concussions. It's really bad for you, and I'm worried about getting hurt myself once the soccer season starts up again. I'm considering not doing it this year, and getting hurt is a major factor. I can't afford to miss weeks of school, not to mention the permanent brain damage of a concussion.

I really don't feel like being nice. These points are all so biased and wrong.

In case you haven't realized, the feeling of doing well in sports release basically the exact same endorphins that doing well in videogames do. But on top of that, you have endorphins being released just by being active, which doesn't happen during video game playing.

Also, sports and obsession over sports are not mutually inclusive things. I know plenty of football (soccer,) players who absolutely love the game, that don't go batshit over it. They may get excited during a game, and applaud a good player. Nothing wrong with that. But if your point is that obsession is bad, there are plenty of people I know that have absolutely no idea how to play football but will still freak over Ronaldo.

The last point there is just stupid. Firstly, that's a blanket statement over all sports, such as football or tennis or rowing, which have basically no danger to your health. I personally dislike the higher contact sports and see the risks involved in them, but still the only real big problems you're going to be seeing is at the pro-league. And still, the fact that you're getting yourself really healthy and being happy doing what you're doing.

Getting hurt happens. And a lot. So get used to it. It is definitely not good for you, but you can't live in a bubble for your whole life. A concussion, really?. Can you see where I'm going?

Tell your sister I said hi. In fact, put her through.

Sports only makes Europeans and South Americans violent and this only seems to happen with soccer

when was the last time you heard of a girl saying to her boyfriend: "quit working out, or get out."

And by the way, athletes are obviously more physical beings. As an athlete, I take a bit of pride in that. Since most of us do in fact play video games, only are not devoted to it, I don't really understand your argument with regards to athletes getting in trouble more. Fights, certainly, but not trouble. Let's be honest, the stereotypical 'gamer' (as is allowed since you argued using the stereotypical jock) doesn't solve problems violently.

They tend to bottle up resentment, taking out anger in different ways. That's just your way. Doesn't make it better.

90% of the time is spent watching a game, and practices are focused around becoming better at playing the sport as opposed to staying fit.
this is not entirely true because in many sports overall fitness is very important to ones performance. To say that it makes you unhealthy is false but you are correct in saying that your more likly to get permanent physical harm. youd be better off leaving that sports arent about staying fit out for a better argument but i agree with all your other points

The exact same concept applies to sports, there's no rule saying you have to try. I can't get into it and as a result just sort of stand around and pretend to try to get the ball when it comes near me. 99% of the time I'm on the bench.
Where to you want me to go with this?....

You DO try because it in the spirit of the game.... it is entirely possible to start a video game and not touch the controller ..... you don't have to do anything. But if you don't then you're not really doing it.

And how can not doing anything be beneficial at all?

Also I failed to quote you in my last post so i don't know if you managed to read it.

Well I know that people will get hurt, but you're more likely to get hurt if you play a sport. It almost seems like an unnecessary risk to me. It's not the only reason I might drop soccer, but it's a major factor.

She says, "Hello to you too."

As someone who does MMA, I don't really agree with the premise. Videogames don't make people violent, but neither do sports. MMA would on the surface be the most likely to cause violent tendencies, but it doesn't. Some people are more hot-headed than others, but that's as likely with someone who doesn't do any kind of sport. I agree with obsessive, but sports aren't bad for your health the way video games are. Yes you can get injured, and I've had some serious, nearly crippling injuries, but I'm in way better shape and physical condition than 99% of gamers, and normal people for that matter too. To put it into perspective, after 3 weeks sitting on my butt doing nothing, and not ever training for a marathon, I entered a 42km marathon on short notice to help a friend who was having difficulty with her training due to shin splints. I finished it, with muscle soreness and a couple blisters on my feet, but otherwise nothing wrong with me. That's not something people who don't do sports hardcore can do.

What your argument does do though is illustrate how ridiculous the argument against video games is though, since you applied the same logic that's applied to video games to sports, and it doesn't hold up in either case.
