I may not need this. But I do want it.
I also appreciate that they are doing something simple and quick to turn a buck in an HD hungry market. Will be really hard to screw this up.
While earlier being brought up to day would be awesome. I am sure one little mistake on FF7 would send hoards of decades old fan people swarming.
The remake can be absolutely flawless and those people will still find something to complain about. Haters gotta hate and all that stuff.

I could care less about X, X-2 is being remade and that is (My opinion) The second best game ever made. Ever.

If.. you.. really.. wanted.. to.. you... would have? What's stopping you from replaying the original other than the textures being of a lower quality? =| I replayed FFX for the PS2 a few weeks ago, because I had been wanting to play it again.

It.. could.. be.. the.. fact.. that.. I.. don't.. have a PS2? Cool story, bro, and I'ma let you finish, but...Final Fantasy X is only one game. I'm not going to buy a PS2 so I can play one game. Sure, there are others I could play. But I have a PS3, I'm perfectly fine waiting until the remaster is released.

Oh no what have you done? Quickly join me in the FFX2 fan safety shelter. There's no time the shit storm approaches.

OT: Cool 2 more games to add to my HD Collection. Now I just need a HD Onimusha Collection and I can finally be done with this console generation after Deadpool comes out.

Since I still have a PS2 and most of my FF games collecting dust somewhere, I'm not forking (dongles, lol!) out for another copy of the game. Until FFX looks as bad as FFVII does now I am happy to play the original. But if it keeps a few fans happy or introduces new gamers to the series then great, they will have a prettier version to look at but that laugh will always be awkward.

I'm kind of happy for this.

As long as it isn't a digital only title, I'm willing to pick it up.

Yes, FFX-2 was great fun.
Everyone who railed on it just seemed to obsessed with the fact they had to play a bunch of girls.

I did however, dislike all three characters were essentially identical. Same base stats, same stats when Dressphere equipped, no unique items. Since Rikku is Al Bhed she should've been more proficient with Alchemy, Gun Mage, Thief than anyone else, Paine should've been a stronger D.Knight, Berserker etc.

People always measured the voice acting of FFX by the laughing scene... That laugh was supposed to be that way, unsure why so many people don't get why it was bad acting, but rather purposely bad laughing (it's exactly the same in the JP version). Context is lost on most teenagers that played on release I suppose.

I wouldn't buy a whole new console for a HD upgrade. But thats exactly the point. My PS2 is broken, my PS3 isn't and I'm not going to buy a whole new console for one game I've already played.

There's a huge market for these games, it will please a lot of people who haven't got a PS2 anymore and it's far far more profitable than an FFVII remake because it's several degrees of power more expensive to remake FFVII

But the laughing scene was meant to be awkward, even if it is re-dubbed, it would still be awkward, if you listened to the dialogue, you would know they were forcing the laughter to keep their spirits up.
Don't bother trying to explain it. People love to take it out of context cos LOOK HOW CRAP FFX AND LATER GAEMS R! TEH WORLD ARE ENDING! SQUARE IS D0000MED! AERIS 4 LYF!

OT: It's a lot easier to remaster X and X-2 over other iterations due to how linear it was (and X-2 reusing assets).

OP if you think that their best games are outdated, wouldn't 6 and 7 count too? Let's face it, it's much easier to remaster one of the best selling and acclaimed titles that aren't that "outdated" over 6 and 7. And I doubt a lot of people would buy a 2D HD FF6 (I would) .

Since IGN didn't post them, here's some nice comparison images that show the difference.

Looks like they're even updating and re-rendering the pre-rendered cinematics, which is nice.

They won't remake 7 until they are absolutely sure they have no other choice.
They're saving cashing in on the most misplaced nostalgia of all time for a really, really rainy day.

Yay now I can not play Blitzball in glorious HD!

Kidding. I actually really like FF X and X-2. Don't get me wrong X-2 is stupid beyond belief...but it's still fun and I'll support pretty much any FF game that uses the job class system.

Depending on the price point I'll probably pick these up.

Looks awesome, I hope they do a PS3/Vita cross bundle like they did with All-Stars because I would love to play this on the go! Release date please!

Strange Squeenix, it's like you don't want my money. Are you dense, clueless or just stubborn? Oh well, have fun being stuck in a financial slump for a while longer.

Though some would say that Skyrim has, if anything, more content than the older Final Fantasy games and that looks fantastic.
Yeah, but how much of that content is good, quality content with substance? (Quick answer: Not that much)

I'm not saying that the older FFs were entirely fluff-free, but they (6, the only one I played a substantial amount of) were developed in many ways that Skyrim wasn't.

Also, HD updates aren't that bad. Just keep the same engine and enhance the models and textures. Although, they should price it accordingly (5 USD or equivalent).

True, though it should be noted that they needn't design much new and substantial content as it's already there. It would just need a bit of tweaking to fit modern camera perspectives and controls and such. Or so I imagine.

Still, I'm not the developers and they know better than me how long it would take and how expensive it would be to remake these old games with modern graphics. Personally, I'm happy with the originals. The only thing I want out of FFVII is a better bloody translation and I hear there are mods for that.
