Final Fantasy Type-What-Now?

This is news to me. Is this a new game or is this a branch-off of one of the current games? (I heard FF13 had two sequels coming out. Versus13 and... Another one. Is this the other one?)

Edit:
Turns out it's one of the sequels to 13. Cool. Hope it's better than its predecessor. HA-CHA!
Nope, if memory serves this is the new name they are using for FF XIII Agito. In a way it iiiiiis easier to say than "Final Fantasy Thirteen Agito".
FFXIII is... Final Fantasy 13. A game with the name FFXIII is a sequel to FF13.

I'm pretty sure it' a separate story just that it revolves around crystals just like 13 and versus do.

hope they release an English translation for the site sometime soon.
Yeah, I'll bet FF13 Agito is to FF13 like Crisis core or Dirge of Cerberus is to FF7.

I'm definitely excited about the game, but I'll stay cautious about the controls. They look like they'll be a pain in the ass to deal with.

I love the art style and the character looks in the game. I don't know what it is about the black and red linen design, but it looks really sleek. Not a huge fan of the capes sadly.

I didn't watch the one on the site yet.

And it would've been better if they at least kinda made the Nazi references a bit more Jin Roh.

But then again, you said that guy from the originAL FF XIII and 3rd Birthday have no trace on the site, so I'm not totally mad. At least the music on the site sounds good and almost like something outta MGS.
Wow, that one is pretty bad. Hope it isn't an official trailer. The one I mean is the leftmost option under "Special" on the site (トレーラ). It has its share of cliches as well, but it's not as bad as that.

EDIT: I just saw Third Birthday right by one of the developer credits on the site, so I'm totally mad again. If it's stating that 3rd Birthday is one of the things that person directed, anyways.
It is worrying, isn't it? I suppose it comes down to whether 3rd Birthday suffered from poor direction (Tabata) or poor writing (Toriyama). Tabata directed Crisis Core too (which I also haven't played).
Crisis Core was fantastic, but it also suffered some moments of laughably bad dialogue. Trust me when I say Tabata is competent and wholly capable of making a great game.

Maybe when they ditch the androgynous emo fucktards they put up as main characters and actually remember back to the SNES and PSX when they were able to produce GOOD (FF8 can get bent though) Final Fantasy games I will have some shred of interest in a new Final Fantasy title again. Until that time I will keep myself amused with the GBA/DS remakes of Square/Enix games that were actually worth a damn.

Actually, you do seem pretty pissed. Type-0 will have 14 main characters, I highly doubt all of them will be androgynous emos.

I wouldn't be so sure about that . . . . Hell if the pictures on the Andriasang website are anything to go by the characters will all either be a variation of obviously female or lesbians that look like Justin Beiber.

Seriously, look up at the top and tell me if someone were to show you that picture absent the Final Fantasy branding and told you it was a still for a game about two lesbians you would show the least amount of disbelief.

Nah, I'd know the guy on the right is an actual guy. The female has a much rounder face and doesn't have visible sideburns.

Surprisingly, the only one whose gender I was confused about in this list:

was the female at the bottom left and the girl with the handgun in the middle right, until I saw the skirts on them.

This is why I wish Square-Enix would use a cel-shaded style at least once. Valkyria Chronicles did it, Tales of Vesperia did it, why not do it here too? Those are some very pretty designs, why not put them to more use?

I don't have anything against their visual style specifically. Lightning, for instance, was impressively good-looking in XIII (both aesthetically and technologically), but there's a certain doll-like quality to so many of their models. Specifically, it's the faces. Not the "uncanny valley" effect, it's just that they make the character faces seem kind of lifeless in 3D. They get around that problem with characterization, sure, but it would be so cool to see a full Final Fantasy setting in glorious cel-shaded HD.

Okay, it might just be me. Maybe I just want more games to be like Tales of Vesperia. But is that so wrong? Surely ther-actually, I'm really getting off topic now.

Crisis Core was pretty good, considering they worked with a character the threw a considerably sized wrench into FF 7.

I'm just gonna wonder why the one in the lower left corner looks a bit like Lightning.

Really, Square? This one doesn't even have anything to do with Lightning and them, you really gotta leave her mark everywhere, just like 3rd Birthday, huh?

Fuck you, Square, cut that shit out.

I might be overreacting a bit, but still. It is kinda similar.

Oh god this is gonna be like FF13 all over again where they they announce it 5 years before its released and people get all hyped up and have huge expectations and then get let down.

Or it will go the way of FF14, be showed off way to soon, then released way to soon, then we get a public apology from the head of SquareEnix cause the game sucks/wasn't read to be released.

They announced this one 5 years ago, with Versus and XIII, it was called AGITO back then.

Question? why are we having the same fucking conversations we had last january when all this shit was shown (minus the new website of course) seriously would it kill you people to have attention spans?

Yeah, I'll bet FF13 Agito is to FF13 like Crisis core is to FF7.

So it?ll have a good story but somewhat repetitive combat?
Yeah... It isn't a great analogy is it?

What I'm saying is that Agito will be part of the FF13 universe, or following certain characters from FF13, or both. Plus, can combat get more repetitive than FF13? And it won't be hard to have a better story than it.

Whoa, hang on a second. The trailer is.. awesome?!

Seriously. The art style and gameplay look great. I'm actually getting excited for a new Final Fantasy game. Please don't fuck this up, Square-Enix.
Are you talking about that trailer that played Requiem for a Dream and tried to rip off Killzone by placing a bunch of unsubtle Nazi crap in the background?

And if they can't make a good sequel to a 13-year old game, they sure as hell can't make a good one to a one year old one.

Sorry if I sound sore around the posterior, butt I feel very mad about 3 sequels to the giant meh that was FF XIII.

Still, I'll try to save the rest of my rear agony for when the game comes out. Until then, I on the fence like Wiz Khalifa is on Black and Yellow.

Also, it's a good looking website, to Square's credit.
Not a sequel. None of them are. Final Fantasy XIII is a stand-alone game. The ONLY sequel it will have is XIII-2.

Versus XIII and "Agito XIII" (now known as Type-0) are both stand-alone games. The ONLY comparison they have with FFXIII is the lore. The fal'Cie and such exist, but in a very different format. Certain terms and titles are similar. Not the same planet/towns/regions.

It's like how the old retro Final Fantasy games had callbacks/references to other games. VI and XII have Espers, but they're set in entirely different universes.

It's really not THAT hard to understand that it isn't a direct sequel, and merely features similar lore and references..

Maybe square should work on finishing FF 14 first.....
Ahem.. You DO know that Square Enix doesn't just have one sole unit working on every game, right? FFXIV's staff is pretty much exactly the group FFXI had, with a few adjustments since the big smackdown of Hiromichi Tanaka being replaced as Director/Producer. The new Director/Producer is actually doing good things. There have already been SEVERAL major updates to the game over the last few months. Granted, still a LONG way from being "decent" though.

*sigh*.. If only people actually knew what they were talking about before hurling abuse at a company, simply because they hate JRPGs, or whatever other benign/silly excuse for hating Square Enix..

Attention spans? On MY Escapist community? HAHAHAHAHAHA-oh wait you're actually serious... Um.. LOOK OVER THERE! BUNNIES!

But seriously, you're absolutely right. Either people don't give a shit or they're just repeating the same shit simply because "IT IS CALLED FINAL FANTASY SO IT IS INSTANTLY TERRIBLE HATEHATEHATE!!!"

Fuckwits..

Bitching about stupid people aside, I'm always interested to see new Final Fantasy games. They're actually creative and full of awesome story, rather than the Western equivalent which is all "burly everyman in space/medieval/other time period/situation"..

Actually, y'know what, I don't even care if the game isn't super fucking brilliant. I don't have to. Why? THE MUSIC ON THE TEASER SITE IS FUCKING BADASS INSANE AWESOME GOODNESS WANT NOW OH MY FUCKING LORD YES.

...It's not Nobuo's work though, I don't think, so it isn't godly, but it's still fucking awesome!

EDIT: I'm just checking the character bios now.. Kurasame has A PET TONBERRY WITH AN AXE. Want. Game. Now. Solely for that reason.

They definitely should try cel shading more, but I don't know if it would fit in a Steampunk game like Type-0. I saw it work in Medieval settings and Feudal Japan, but I can't imagine it being as nice as the likes of Dragon Quest VIII. Square Enix does tend to put 90% of their budget in the graphics department though.

Not all is lost, as Lightning actually looks pretty good with the Aya Brea outfit. I just wish they could stop with the overcomplicated clothes, as neat as some of them may be.

He should be a great replacement considering he did the music for Crisis Core and The World Ends With You. Uematsu's style doesn't seem like it'd fit the steampunk theme as well as Takeharu Ishimoto.

AHA! Thanks for mentioning the composer's name! I forgot who it was.. Crisis Core's battle tracks and Zack's main acoustic guitar theme are pretty damn awesome!
