SquareEnix lost a big chance for a big payout...anyone agree?

With SquareEnix making so many games that are spinoffs of the Final Fantasy series (and not all good...I'm looking at you, X-2!), I feel they missed a huge opportunity to make both a spin-off and the start of a new genre for the company.

A Stand-alone Blitzball game.

Think about it. Enhance the controls, add teams, have season mode, career mode, bigger draft pool (pardon the pun!), this could have been epic! I mean, I know I played at LEAST 4 games of Blitzball every time I loaded my save file, and I always started my time with FFX playing a game and ended my time playing a game.

You know what? I can't even say they've entirely "missed" the chance yet...if they decided to do it now, I'd STILL be first in line to pick this game up.

Sigh...all this talk has made me look over at my PS2 game stack...I gotta play some Blitzball now. Anyone agree with me that this game could have been amazing?

Uh...I'd say yes to that. Why ask me if I liked Blitzball if it's pretty obvious from my suggestion that I did? :p

Huh. Apparently you made two threads, so I'll post to this one too.

I think you and I are the only people in the world who liked Blitzball, Louzon. Not a good plan.

I enjoyed Blitzball, too. I'd pick up a stand-alone version. Bonus points if I can unlock Rikku for my team.

...No. Never. No. God no.
Blitzball gave me headaches. I'll admit I played a bit, but when I found out all I got was Wakka's ultimate weapon, I dropped it like it was hot.
Which it wasn't.

A friend of mine got right into Blitzball. Just loved playing it for the sport alone - I don't think he ever actually finished the main game, in the end. :D

I know I would definitely buy a Blitzball spinoff. Especially if it was co-op play at home (and online would be ok, if less enjoyable) and had its own plot attached to it. I really enjoyed Jak X because it was a stand-alone story on top of being a spin-off 'sport game'.

I think as a stand a lone game, blitzball would make a great value/bargain title to be distributed on either the ps3 network or xbox live for a few bucks. I wouldn't pay 50 or 100 bucks for it, but I'd spring 5 or so for sure.

Of course, if they made it "better" then that price might go northwards, but not by much.

Interestingly enough, I said the exact same thing in a thread earlier this morning/last night (not sure if it was before midnight or not.) I've been saying that about Blitzball since I first played FFX; that and the battle system were the only two things I liked about that game, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loved everything Final Fantasy at the time.

You know what would be a huge payout for SquareEnix? Remaking Final Fantasy 7. I know the game was not the best but anyone can see it was the most popular and that a remake of it would sell better then any game they have made since FFX.
EDIT: NVM!FFX Was not made by SquareEnix, but by SQUARESOFT. Guess when they became SquareEnix they began to suck harder then a Vietnamese prostitute.

Yeah, I've always wondered why they didn't make Triple Triad and Blitzball standalone games. Even moreso I've wondered why they made Blitzball in FFX-2 suck.

Don't agree on blitzball but Triple Triad was amazing, I reckon a Triple Triad app would sell like hotcakes.
