I dunno if I'd like Stalker Online that much. Part of the fun of it was the crushing bitter struggles of the zone, and the creepy feeling as you're stuck in an environment that actively hates you and there's nobody to watch your back interspersed with small squad-based bits that kind of highlight the whole weird social-understanding of the zone. They're not your friends, and they might even be shooting at you some day, but you've got a common enemy in these pyschic dogs with human faces.

I feel like this would to do STALKER what Sheva did to RE5. Or what WoW did to Warcraft lore by having "Trollolol" the troll shaman and his group of adventurers named "Naga Stole My Bike" leading the charge against what used to be interesting and complex characters that were turned into loot pinatas.

Well STALKER in CryEngine2 looks good... sadly isn't on the STALKER Online, but yet again it is a Drop/Kill Grind like other MMORPG. It is different because it is Third Person Shooter (which I dislike for a shooter, but sometimes well done)... but Action MMOs in Third or First Person are rising... and yet it is just the same damn MMOish grinding... or PvP.

I like STALKER, I think it has potential, but I couldn't play it for more than an hour because I'm just damn annoyed at being a lone wanderer in a world full of danger or you join up some NPCs that are more useless than you are... I'm sure I would gang up with some group even if i have to lick the leader's feet just to be safer. Just being able to team with a friend or four friends add to replayability.

LISTEN UP DEVs! COOP ISN'T A ONLY FOR CHICKENS!

Do I make myself clear?

OT: STALKER Online seems to defeat the purpose, but the Cryengine 2 stuff is pretty sweet--it's a shame that it's not localized for Westerners yet.

Hm...STALKER=great, graphics=shiny, russian=menospeak, multiplayer=potentially fun. Yes, not a bad find, op, not bad at all.

Seriously asking? Because awnser is no.
How about now? Also, heads up: that link goes to ED, and you know what they're famous for.
Congratz, you made me go to a website i regret going as it wasted a minute of my life as it didn't make more sense nor actually giving you point for a discussion or criticism toawrd my message about how annoy soloing in time of despair is. Sorry, I still have a life that makes me miss some Internet meme.

I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm saying that character is probably irradiated already and lost brain cell if he didn't understand that being alone in a wasteland is bad for your health, mostly if everything want you dead. That's why we live in communities, packs, bands, groups. I may excuse horror genre, but hardly action/tactical/whatever.

So, let me try and understand where you're coming from. As I see it, you're saying that a game called STALKER, which is set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, about a group of people who constantly wage a war against one another and nature itself for survival and prosperity, which is designed to invoke terror and uneasiness with the knowledge that you are alone and friendless in an environment that considers you to be nothing more than a bacterial infection...is bad/stupid because it has no Co-op. Is that correct?

First thing, congratz for writing something that I can really reply to. Two, no. I didn't say the game is bad as quoted and told before a few times. Also what you described hardly fit human nature (except for the killing part), or there wouldn't be any small whatever spot you can trade or get missions and certainly wouldn't have been saved (only played first title). Also it is 'groups' of people who wage war.

As a human myself I don't kill my 'teammate', 'allie', 'neighbor' even if i don't trust them, because I may need some sugar from them and wasting a box-full of ammo to get to grocery store would be idiot. Also, survival isn't about killing everything that moves, it is about staying alive, that is a 'defensive attitude', that's were the beauty of watching our back help. And prosperity isn't achieved alone. A solo person may be stealthier, but also a much easier target.

May not be the best example ever, Left 4 Dead... they are 4 peoples who doesn't know jack about each other at first, but I'm sure prefers having them on their team than being alone. And see, they do progress in their survival and may reach prosperity.

I'm sure you can still be terrified and uneasy while playing WITH a friend. Again, I'm not saying STALKER is a bad game. I'll give it another try later, I just dislike the One-Man Ar... well the Lone Wanderer part which, honestly, didn't give me more chills than frustration.

No hard feeling. I'm not a professional critic, but I do beleive that cooperative gameplay is underrated and many games like STALKER would have benefit from it.

Firsties first: I said you said that it was bad and/or stupid, which neatly encapsulates "annoying".

Then, to move on-topic: all I'm saying is that even the scariest game of all time stops being even a little bit unnerving as soon as you have another person with you. Case in point:

So while co-op might make STALKER a better action game, it would stop being a decent horror game--and it is, first and foremost, a horror game.

(Also, if you think the concept of a one-man killing machine who deliberately avoids making friends is stupid, it starts to make sense at the halfway point.)

No, I've played games that were annoying, had flaws but we still enjoyable and succesful. For example, I'm very bad at Counter-Strike and Day of Deafeat, it is annoying to be killed every 5 bloody seconds... I still think at least Day of Defeat is a good game.

Then, to move on-topic: all I'm saying is that even the scariest game of all time stops being even a little bit unnerving as soon as you have another person with you. Case in point:
I have that game and did play part of it. I've been annoyed that I couldn't thorw the shelves at the enemies when I'm on the edge of going crazy, but that's a concept I can accept if that hiding from them wasn't killing me too. Althought I do appreciate Amnesia for trying something and being HORROR, althought it didn't scare me much.

So while co-op might make STALKER a better action game, it would stop being a decent horror game--and it is, first and foremost, a horror game.
Might want to see Yahtzee's comment on horror genre. I agree with him. Still, as far as I'm concerned, horror genre doesn't exist, thriller do and yet Minecraft been scarier than STALKER. I suppose you think Metro 2033 is horror too.

(Also, if you think the concept of a one-man killing machine who deliberately avoids making friends is stupid, it starts to make sense at the halfway point.)
I'm not against all one-man army games, I can enjoy some mindless gory killing (Serious Sam, still more enjoyable with friends). I agree, coop wouldn't work in Prototype, were you are actually a sociopath/egocentric with much more power than others, which is actually required to be a one-man army. But most Lone Wanderer games aren't like that, it's just that they throw the story as 'You're the one'.

Having COOP in Amnesia, even if it would make no sense, wouldn't make it less scary... which it isn't anyway... would just be useless.

Okay, went far enough and won't reach an agreement, reply if you want, I'll read, but won't reply. Meet you in another one.

Okay. You go yours, I'll go mine. Don't get hit by a bus in the meantime.

Unrelated: you need to play more Team Fortress 2.

No problem, I usually take it. Not that I wouldn't drive, but I don't have a car... and licence.

Yeah probably, but I'm terribly bad with PvP, mostly popular ones. My aim is always slightly off and I get killed. I prefer to play with peoples than against them, at least I can skip all the NEWB! PWND!, Tea-bagging and swearing or wanna-be live DJs. Still hope to be slightly decent an1d enjoy Natural Selection 2.

...Left 4 Dead then? I don't mean to sound creepy, but I'm in the habit of playing multiplayer games with any Escapist who castches me with my metaphorical argumentative knickers down.

Sure, I'll PM you, I was wondering about it to... what was metaphorical? Did feel a bit of sarcasm, but the unrelated threw it to garbage wanting not to have any bad feeling about this little discussion.
